"However, when my son went for the interview, he returned almost immediately, stating that the manager told him he needed to be 18 to work there. Knowing that this wasn’t true, I quickly looked up the hiring age for McDonald's, which stated it’s 14. This contradicted what the manager had previously told us about needing to be 16. I called to confirm the information, but she repeated that the minimum age at that location was 18. To verify further, I had my wife call, as she is Mexican like the manager and staff. During her call, when she asked about the age requirement, there was a noticeable pause. She asked a few more times, and finally, the manager said it was 17. My wife then questioned why we were told 18 and confronted her about the initial 16 years old statement, all while she was sitting in the driver's seat where the manager couldn’t see me. The manager then claimed that we needed to provide a letter stating that our son could work there. It became clear that her refusal to hire him was influenced by his race, as my son is African American/Black. Determined not to give my business to a place that doesn’t welcome us, I decided I wouldn’t spend any more money at that McDonald's. However, my son and daughter urged me to get milkshakes from there today, so I gave in. When my son went inside to order two medium milkshakes totaling $7.15, he only had $7.00. He opted to downgrade one to a small, but the cashier insisted it stayed at $7.15. He then downgraded both to smalls, yet the price remained the same. Frustrated by the situation, he left with only $7.00, which should have covered the smaller size. He later noticed the same manager smirking off to the side as a new young employee—who looked even younger than my son—was brought out in his work shirt. Regardless of our confrontation, it’s important to remember that McDonald's is a professional business, and customers should always come first. Unfortunately, it seems that this location has a bias toward hiring only Mexican employees."
