"There aren 't many dining options in this area, and we were grateful to find Hot Rod 's hadn 't closed when so many other restaurants had, and we 've tried to be supportive. They 're not making it easy. The first time we went for breakfast. The portions were large, and it was good, basic food (pancakes, sausage, bacon and eggs). Service was pretty good. Next time was lunch, and the burgers were very good. Also decent service. The prices are very reasonable. The third time, though, was not so good. We ordered takeout breakfast. My husband went to pick it up. When he got back, 12 miles round trip, he was a little miffed to find the order wrong. I called, and the person who answered tired to make light of the mistake by giggling and saying, Are you missing a biscuit? He went back to get it because he REALLY wanted the biscuit, but there was no offer to reimburse or compensate or even much of an apology. But we wanted to try again...so, we went back for breakfast one Saturday. All the inside tables were full, so we told the server we 'd sit outside until one became available. She took our order and went back in. After a good amount of time, I looked inside and there was an empty table, so we took it. The server acknowledged us. In the meantime, three more parties came in. We waited while these three parties got served. The waitress saw us, and said she 'd check on our order.... She came back and said it 'd been packed up as a to-go order. We 're not sure how long it sat on the counter, but the the food that was delivered to our table had obviously been dumped from the bag on the plates. Cold hash browns are not appetizing. In the meantime, one of the other tables had left, and new customers had come in and sat. No one went to their table, so one diner got up, grabbed a rag and wiped off the table. Meanwhile, the entire staff stood behind the counter and argued about the schedule. Incidentally, on a previous visit, we could hear one of the employees relate the details of a relative 's botched surgery. So appetizing. We didn 't get an apology for the screwed-up breakfast this time, either, much less compensation. We had plans, so we paid the bill quickly and left and after we had thought about it, realized we had been overcharged to boot! There are only five or six tables in this place. With pretty good, reasonably priced food, it 's a shame the staff the staff can 't get their act together or even seemed concerned about it, but I guess that 's how it is when you 're about the only joint in town."
