"We arrived on a weeknight right at 5:00PM and Kangxi was empty, save for one staff member. The restaurant has a large dining space, good for groups. They even have a bar, and a couple of private rooms. Parking was easy for us, maybe because we came for an early dinner AND on a weeknight. This restaurant is kind of tucked away so you might get lucky with parking. We ordered the following: Kangxi spicy noodle $11.99): noodles were cooked well, but this dish definitely could have used more sauce. Despite vigorous mixing, there were still dry noodles : This noodle dish was not spicy, either. Chongqing spicy chicken $14.99): Who doesn't like fried stuff? Chicken pieces were fried well, but I was *not* getting the Chongqin spicy! I did not taste the two chili peppers that were listed on the menu, warning of the numbing spice that was to come. Boiled spicy beef brisket $17.99): Broth/soup was a little anemic in flavor and in mouthfeel, and, sadly... not spicy at all. Cumin lamb $17.99): Just... okay in flavor. Lamb was cooked perfectly, though! Flavor was just lacking. Pork dumplings forgot the price): My favorite item of the meal! Not listed in the menu but I had seen other reviewers post about the dumplings. They were probably the best dumplings I've had at a restaurant in recent memory. Juicy, handmade, and generously filled. The portions were huge. You will for sure have enough for lunch the next day! I can't help but wonder if the pandemic had something to do with this night's mediocre meal, and wonder if Kangxi will get back in their groove of cooking the delicious, flavorful food that other reviewers are talking about. Despite the majority of the dishes lacking in spice and flavor... I would come back again. Am I crazy?! Maybe, but that's neither here nor there :P Kangxi had many items on the menu that intrigued me chicken gizzard w/mixed peppers, frog, Hunan style braised pork, Szechuan flavored fish, etc."

"If you visit during the colder months, you might be welcomed with a serving of homemade kimchi, which I believe is the best I've ever tasted. If you don't get the kimchi, you might receive homemade redskin peanuts, which are said to help regulate blood sugar and are a nice complement if you're having rice with your meal. Have you tried the Wood Ear Fungus with Chili Pepper appetizer? If not, you absolutely should! The tender, crunchy wood ears are marinated in chili vinegar and garnished with fresh cilantro, making for a crisp and refreshing dish. The stir-fried lotus root is another delightful side; it's lightly seasoned and has a crunchy texture similar to an apple, without being heavy on starch. The garlic and subtle umami flavors have made it one of my recent favorites. For a shareable main dish, I highly recommend the Fish Filets with Cumin. The whitefish filets are coated in spices and dry-fried with garlic, ginger, peppers, and scallions, resulting in a fragrant and flavorful dish. Alternatively, you could try the Garlic Shoots with Preserved Pork, which features stir-fried leek greens and what I believe is marinated roast pork. This dish offers tender greens complemented by a delicious bacon-like flavor from the meat. I strongly recommend dining in, as the food is best enjoyed fresh rather than after a long DoorDash delivery. But whichever way you choose to experience it, don’t miss out on the amazing authentic Chinese cuisine at Spice Workshop!"

"I purchased a box of pork bun from this restaurant (it named Sunny Dumpling House/XG Restaurant/Lee's Bao zi). I randomly ate one bun and noticed there was something textured like “eggshell,” but I didn’t take it seriously and swallow them in. After that, I had a second bun, felt the same texture, and swallow. Until I bit a hard piece, I thought was a rock and spat it out. What I found was a piece of broken glass and it was bitten into two pieces. After a while, I felt some discomfort in my throat so I asked my husband took me to urgent care. The doctor ordered a neck x-ray and told me if she found something usual, she would call me.When I back home, she called me and asked me to go Emergency directly. I was sent into the emergency room because of abnormal results and foreign body in the throat. After examinations, I did upper GI endoscopy(EGD) to make sure there was nothing scratch or cut my throat, esophagus, and stomach. Fortunately, I was the lucky one, but the recovery after the procedure (under anesthesia) was very painful and took many days to get well. I am safe and recovered now. Please avoid this restaurant. They’re not responsible for their food. They told me they checked the kitchen there was no way to let pieces of glass into the bun. However, one staff said maybe it’s the glass bottle of fermented bean curd because the lid is always tied so they will hit the lid to let air in.The owner and manager of the restaurant still refuse to admit this matter is their responsibility. Does it mean they don’t need to take any responsibility for taking out food? Very disappointed. My husband and I purchased buns for many years, but won’t go to this restaurant for any consumption anymore."
