"I always request a fish camp meeting when visiting family in Charlotte area. Several of old favorites closed or carry out only so Riverside was suggested. A bit off the beaten path but well worth it. Yelp said opens at 4:00, so planned to meet at 4:00. Arrived there a few minutes early to find parking lot almost full and people leaving with leftover boxes. They changed open hour to 3:00. Our party of 12 had about a 15 minute wait. Unfortunately the largest table only seated 10 comfortably so 3, that originally said they would meet there just to see family and not eat, sat at another table. Started with drinks and hush puppies then ordered fried squash, onion rings and fried tomatoes to pass around. First two were great. Tomatoes were fried ripe, not green, and were very mushy. Bleh. I ordered green shrimp and oysters. I would have also ordered scallops but was surprised that they didn't carry them. Meals came in about 15 minutes after appetizers. Holy Cow Batman! I thought I mistakenly ordered a meal for two, but was told it was a regular $11.95 plate, even less without extra charge for oysters. Looking around ALL the plates were HUGE! Food was spectacular. Oysters crispy outside and juicy inside, shrimp lightly battered and scrumptious. Of course there were lots of takeout boxes requested. I ate my oysters and maybe a third of the shrimp and had a full box for dinner the next day, along with a cup of cocktail sauce flavored with horseradish. Delicious food, wonderful tea, great service and huge portions, I think we found a new home for our gathering!"
