"I can never get enough of enjoying a perfect day outdoors by the water, savoring delicious food while listening to music, and that was exactly how my day unfolded today. I’ll elaborate a bit more beyond just a brief review. Bert’s is located along the route to Pine Island in Matlacha, which is a delightful journey filled with vibrant restaurants and shops. It was our first visit, so we fully embraced the tourist experience. Although all the tables on the deck were occupied, a friendly couple invited us to join them, leading to a lovely conversation. You can’t beat the kindness in Florida, even if you’ve recently moved here from Pittsburgh. It was a wonderful start to our late lunch. When it comes to food, which is truly important to me, I began with a rich and flavorful Clam Chowder. It was full of clams and tasted fantastic. I asked our server what the most popular dishes were, and she recommended two: the Fish Tacos and the Fish Chips. I opted for the Fish Chips. These Fish Chips were nothing like the traditional English version; there was no newspaper wrap and thankfully, no excess oil. Instead of thick-cut fries, there were very thin and light potato chips (maybe they needed a little more seasoning). Rather than having large pieces of battered fish, there were small, delectable fish nuggets that were light yet full of flavor. I also tried some deep-fried oysters, which I enjoyed very much. Parking can be somewhat tricky. In addition to the spots directly in front of the restaurant, Bert's has some additional parking spaces available. We parked at the far end of the shopping district and walked over the bridge, which gave us a lovely chance to take in the surroundings. All in all, Bert's was an excellent choice for us today."

"Very disappointing! Food: Ordered 8 jumbo wings, two different sauces. When they arrived, asked which were which flavored, server did not know. She guessed, but was wrong. A couple of the wings were a fair size, but for the most part, they were really small. All were greatly overcooked/rubbery. I usually share with my husband, but he considered them too tough/ inedible. The sauces were good and very flavorful, but could/should have been more heavily coated. Might have counteracted the dry/overcooked meat. We did speak with a manager who removed the wings from our bill who told us the wings coming in are indeed much smaller than usual. I stated they may want to put a note in the menus that jumbo wings were not available, instead smaller would be provided (maybe reduce the rate or add more wings). We surmised, the chefs are still cooking at the jumbo timing but for the smaller wings, just too long thus overcooked... Fries: requested steaming hot and crispy. The server response was strange: he said in very hesitant tone... I can try... . HUH? When they came, the serving size was small and they were sort a warm at best. We told the server, he was not the least bit surprised and he got a fresh, hot serving. So does this happen a lot? Pulled pork sandwich. We are used to an overstuffed sandwich we share... Not any more . The meat was dry and over cooked. Not much meat in the sandwich. Disappointing. Drinks: My husband ordered a house cabernet. I ordered water The server brought a water and a white wine. We explained Cabernet is red.... Server said, Ya, I thought something was off... Ahhh... OK. So DO something before bringing it to the customer... I drink white so offered to take the white rather than have it thrown away and the waiter went back to the bar and brought a Cabernet... Service: Clearly the server was out of his depth and not very well trained. He was pleasant and trying hard but more training needed. I did ask to see the manager who was very understanding and listened well. She removed the charge for the wings and agreed they were not good. She also agreed that the server needed more training. We get it good, trained staff is hard to hold on to these days. The manager was very professional and handled the feedback well. I got the feeling she would work to improve things based on the feedback. Then the check came... The charge for the wings were indeed removed We were charged for the white wine we did not order. The classy move would be not to charge for it, but I did drink it so ok. We were charged for a premium Cabernet. My husband had very clearly asked for a house wine. He was furious. To him, this was adding insult to injury. I think it 's again a server training issue. In any case, not a good close to a not very good stop."
