"My rating has justified reasoning - not some "it's trendy and I want to go against the grain" opinion. The food was good, didn't meet the $50 price. BUT that is not why the score is low. We were delivered the wrong appetizer, but that didn't stop my 10 month old from grabbing the glob of mustard from the wooden serving board (uh... He's 10 months old and grabs at anything). After explaining that we did not order it, they (waiter and server) took it back to the open kitchen area, scraped it off, reapplied the mustard, and reserved it to an unsuspecting patron!? Food safety issues are rarely isolated especially when a few are involved. From my experience of owning a restaurant, you need to instill good habits - even if there will be food waste. The service was pretty poor as well. Very little interaction and not attentive. The wait staff seems really green (didn't get silverware till requesting it after having our appetizer, wasn't really friendly, took 2 requests for straws). The only reason this is not a 1 star was that the bacon bleu cheese burger was pretty tasty. The burger was cooked well, juicy, great bun, hearty meat taste, and a pretty good size (although pricey ($16) for a burger). Here are the scores: Bacon bleu cheese: 8/10 Fries: 6/10 (not crispy in any way) Bread/jam appetizer: 7/10 (was wishing for a little more basil flavor to spice up the jam, but the bread was soft with a crisp -not tough- crust)"

"It’s no secret that people on the West Coast are more polite and welcoming but that’s understated until you visit the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Beverly Hills. The front desk people were cheerful and, on the morning of July 3, a room service attendant whose name I can’t recall even asked me how I was enjoying my stay and gave me assistance getting to the garage after I had checked out (keys are required to access floors from the elevator). But it is a front desk agent named Emily that I want to sing my praises to.It would have been sufficient for Emily to have been friendly, respectful and attentive – that’s how customer service representatives are supposed to act. Emily’s personality, however, was magical. She was so warm and so welcoming that she was infectious. She answered questions eagerly and with confidence. The Palomar was super busy that weekend and, having worked in the hotel business myself at one point, I know that it is tempting to speak sluggishly or struggle to put on a happy face after a while. Not Emily.Emily was extraordinary in another manner. As an IHG member, I had intended to stay at the Palomar only one of my three nights in the L.A. area because the points I had only covered it. It was Fourth of July weekend and it was obviously more expensive. I had booked another hotel but really liked Palomar. I wasn’t sure I wanted to stay but two things changed my mind. One was riding by the other hotel and finding, from the outside that it was more shady than it looked online and the neighborhood was not the greatest. The other factor that convinced me to stay at Palomar and spend a great deal of extra money was knowing Emily would be there. I may be embarrassing her but that's how super her guest service skills are and that’s what will bring me back next time I make it to L.A.Thank you Emily for making my stay at Palomar so pleasurable. You truly represent the best of the hospitality industry.Scott"
