Happily, I was dead wrong.The atmosphere of this restaurant is charming and COVID-safe (tables are thoughtfully spaced), food quality is excellent, portion sizes are huge and service is thoughtful. Great value and great fun.Shrimp spring rolls: 2 large rolls, each served halved, providing 4 generous pieces. Fresh and delicious, as is the accompanying peanut dipping sauce.Pho with beef: Massive bowl, served with lime, Thai basil and jalapeño on the side. They were out of bean sprouts when we visited, so a bowl of broccoli and gently steamed carrots was substituted. We didn’t miss the sprouts. The broth was fragrant and had an excellent tang, especially after we added hoisin and sriracha from the bottles provided tableside. Plenty of everything, especially noodles. My quibble is that I would have preferred fewer noodles and more broth— but that’s me. Companion thought that it was perfect as served.Beef brisket banh mi: Gorgeous, plump pieces of brisket, slicked with hoisin sauce. Cucumber provided a cool contrast. The roll was impeccably fresh with an excellent crust. To top it off, the sandwich is served with a small bowl of soup— your choice of chicken or vegetable. The chicken soup was velvety."
