"The hostess seated us promptly in one of the spacious booths, which we love. All around us, families were happily enjoying their meals, digging into generous platters of food. We opened our menus, only to be hit with quite a bit of sticker shock; the prices matched those of fancier (but less inviting) establishments we had recently visited. On the bright side, Casa Maria didn’t charge for chips and salsa, which was a relief. Considering we had already driven so far, we decided to stay and ordered the Sopes and Nachos de la Casa while we munched on the tasty salsa and chips as we waited.
Our wait wasn't long. The Sopes arrived in a set of four, each topped differently and each one more delightful than the last. The Sopes had the perfect crunchy yet chewy texture, the beans were smoky and creamy, and the meats on top were well-trimmed and seasoned to perfection, with barbacoa being our favorite. The Nachos were a delightful surprise, featuring queso instead of shredded cheese, and they were absolutely delicious. The chicken fajita meat was tender and juicy, complemented by grilled onions and peppers that were simply fantastic. We found ourselves with far more food than we could finish, but we did our best to enjoy it and took the leftovers home.
Our waitress was fantastic—very friendly and attentive. Did we love our experience? Absolutely! Would we return? Definitely, but perhaps only if someone else is picking up the tab."
