"I have visited SOL many times at their Newport Beach location, but this was my first time trying the Playa Vista location. Overall, my experience was just okay, but I did have a few criticisms. While the noise level was not excessively loud, our waiter had trouble hearing us when taking our orders. He strongly recommended the tres leches dessert, but I found it to be disappointing as it tasted like a generic yellow cake with artificial frosting that you could buy from a store. Apart from the condensed milk, it could easily be mistaken for a low-quality store-bought birthday cake. Additionally, they did not use real whipped cream. The vampiro taco, which I have enjoyed many times at the other location, was missing the layer of cheese between the two tortillas (a key element of the vampiro). Our other server who brought out the food also mixed up our order, bringing us items we didn't even request, and even when corrected, continued to bring out the wrong dishes. I usually like SOL, so maybe this was just an off night, but it did not meet the usual standard I am accustomed to at this establishment."
