"I had been avoiding this place for quite some time because I thought the exterior was too flashy. However, I finally decided to give it a try, and after that first visit, I returned whenever I had the chance. The food is quite simple and casual, but that's exactly what they aim to provide. In its category, it's nothing short of fantastic. The prices are great for central San Francisco.
There are some rules that patrons need to follow: it's cash only, you have to place your order quickly at the front, everything is pre-heated, and you must clear your own table, among other things. If that doesn't appeal to you, there's always Mel's next door, where you can enjoy table service and food made to order. However, it's at least three times the price and isn’t necessarily better, even though they offer a wider selection.
The interior of Tommy's is simple, with spacious and comfortable tables (I really dislike small round tables, which thankfully aren’t that common in the U.S.). Overall, Tommy's is perfect for what it sets out to achieve."
