"Tried this place two years ago. Way overpriced for what you get. Small cheeseburger, nothing big or special and it was almost $17.00. Tried it again in the last week for breakfast. Again, way overpriced. Piece of ham, hash browns, eggs and toast. Eggs were just flat out gross. I only asked for one and got two. Hash browns were almost burned. The portions were nice sized but even though they weren't busy it took forever getting your food. $16.00 plus tip. I won't go back. The owner I guess that's who she is, is kind of creepy weird. I noticed it before and again last week. She kind of hovers and watches you. Like you are going to leave without paying. I left a nice cash tip on the table which wasen't worth it and she even commented on that. No more for me. It's no wonder the place was deserted. Way overpriced, poorly cooked food, and the service was poor."

"The beef sandwich was very good. I also tried a gyro sandwich, also very good. The meal will definitely fill you up, unlike other beef, gyro, and hot dog joints around the area. I don't want to mention other businesses when reviewing. It will definitely be a go to place for me."

"Stayed the night in Mt. Pleasant, IA after a very long day of driving. Got up the next morning and, not knowing the town, resorted to searching on the internet for a place to go. Found this place. Now called Rome Lunch Box, but with the same menu as Mama's Back Porch. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections. We had breakfast. Mom and I got 2 slices French toast and two eggs, plus I got a side of bacon. Dad got 2 eggs and one pancake he was going to order two, but the server warned him they're big and they are, filling the whole plate! Food took awhile, due to a mixup in the kitchen, but when it came out, it was hot and perfectly made. Mom and I split the bacon, which was really good. And, we were both pleasantly surprised to find the French toast is made the old fashioned way no cinnamon in the batter. We're not fans of cinnamon in that application, and were glad they leave it out. Nice gentleman named Scott was our server. Mom's coffee was hot, the sweet tea was made right, Dad's OJ was good. This place was a great find, and filled with locals. So glad we found it for our meal stop before our day of driving."

"4 stars because the food was A amazing?!?!?! But the wayyyyyyy over rated desert called “ lava cake” was nasty. It was like a hostess cupcake with chocolate syrup poured over it and heated in the microwave. It was spongy and gross. I’ll go back cause the food itself was great!"

"We stopped in for lunch, but unfortunately, the kitchen was closed. However, the other customers were friendly, and the bartender was fantastic. We were really impressed by one employee, a young man who spent the entire time we were there cleaning. We will definitely return when the grill is open, and we highly recommend this place as a stop on your travels along Highway 39."

"First and foremost if you 're looking for a value mill this is not the place to go! Can you say way overpriced... I mean $11 for 2 small soups and I mean small soups. One was a clam chowder their Friday special and the other was supposed to be chilli For one it had the most gritty texture As if somebody poured sand into it. Kind of curious as to what that could be... To make it even that much better since it was so overpriced the crackers were stale. You 'd figure with them charging such high prices they should be able to afford fresh crackers, no? Needless to say I will never ever spend my hard-earned money there again! "This is a lovely, tranquil spot that feels unpretentious and comfortable. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. The service was excellent—warm and welcoming. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer, which were delightful. For my main course, I had the bluegill with a baked potato, and it was exceptional! The fish was perfectly crispy and tender. My fiancé ordered the catfish, also with a baked potato, and he enjoyed it thoroughly; he said it didn’t need any seasoning—it was fantastic as is. We even had the pleasure of meeting Karen, who was incredibly kind and helpful. The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is that the decor is somewhat dated and they don't accept credit or debit cards. However, we will definitely be back for the great food and service."

"Had the worst experience i ever had at a bar here. I ordered only chicken tenders and waited one hour… there was only one other table.. i ask the bartender how come its taking so long. She goes theres only one frier.. i said oh okay thats upsetting. Thats the only thing that was said between us. I get the check she says its 13.50. I go how is it 13.50? She says you got a snicker bar you exchanged the coleslaw for fries so thats an extra doller. The meal i got was the chicken tender basket. It cost 8.75. The snicker cost 1.25 and the upcharge cost one doller. All together thats 11 dollars. When i called her out on it she tried to play it off and gave me attitude about it! She tried to steal 2.50 cents from me and she knew that she upcharged me on purpose how rude! Then the cook comes out of the back a older lady with tattoos. She goes if you ever argue with the bartender again you will not be aloud back here. I said how did i argue please tell me. She had no explanation and just walks away. How terrible customer service i promise you i been going to bars for years and never dealt with something like this in my life. Worst experience i ever had at a bar"
