"This was my first time at River Japanese Cuisine and I came shortly after 8PM on a Friday. While I LOVED the anime and Japanese-themed decor (the 2 human-size Gokú and Vegeta statues made me smile with delight), I had a server that was limited English and it was difficult communicating exactly what we needed. I understand the cultural demographics of Flushing, but it was hard to communicate with the server assigned to us. The service was lacking, simply b/c our server wasn't attentive or engaging with us often. The food was a typical AYCE menu, and the rolls we received weren't made exactly to order (one should've had cucumber and avocado it only had the imitation crabmeat the seared salmon on top). The appetizers were decent. I enjoyed the calamari, fried shumai, baked cheesy mussels, the fried oysters. The beef teriyaki was delicious and came with lots of onions and the fried rice had the perfect amount of veggies and meat.Overall, I likely wouldn't return here for the sushi. I have had much better elsewhere. Coupled with the lacking service, I simply wasn't impressed. The decor was so cute and brought a modern Japanese culture to the restaurant.Be advised: this restaurant is DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS.Decor/ambience: 4/5Sushi: 2/5Appetizers: 4/5Service: 2/5Food selection: 4/5OVERALL RATING: 2.5/5Kid-friendliness: Children will love the anime they play on the flat-screens and the 2 massively large Goku (Super Saiyan) Vegeta statues when you first walk in.Parking: You will have to drive around and find parking, though I recommend using the parking lot connected to the movie theatre and walking a few blocks over. Check the Spot Hero App just in case.Wheelchair accessibility: There is NO wheelchair accessibility. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs. No elevator available. This simply is not the place to dine if a person in a wheelchair intends to dine with you."
