"Feeling like a cheat meal this weekend, I decided to get a months worth of protein at Shabuway in San Mateo! I've been here a couple times in the past 4 months, and if you are looking for AYCE shabu, they got two options: (A) $41.99 includes Kobe, lamb, angus, pork and more. (B) $34.99 angus and pork. Both include traditional veggie plate, shrimp dumplings, and rice/noodles, and ice cream for dessert. When it comes to shabu, I dont have enough of a sophisticated palate to tell the difference between the cuts when it's dipped into the sauce, so wanting to save a little bit of money, I went with option B with the spicy miso broth. This was a solo dining adventure, and they had plenty of seating available and the food came out quick. They were quick to ask if I needed more meat, and I was pretty full after 2.5 plates, and I feel like I got my moneys worth. The sesame sauce is my favorite and I like how I can add garlic and green onions at each seat so I can build my own sauce combo. I tried the shrimp dumplings, but they were pretty mid. I'd stick to meats and not get full on the dumplings Ordering Option B AYCE, tax tip, and a canned coke, it came out to $50. Looking at the receipt it was refreshing to just see the sales tax and not all these additional mandates/taxes that seems to sneak there way on at other spots. Lastly, I want to know what kinda ice cream they use. The cookies and cream was so FIRE, Oreo cookies, French vanilla mix, so good I had to get a double order. Not sure if that's AYCE, but two servings was plenty."

"My wife and I wanted a nice laid-back place to sit outside and enjoy a fun dinner. We ended up being very disappointed by the service. Our server took about 10-15 minutes to get to the table (which feels like an eternity when you are waiting to order beverages). They took our drink order and quickly returned with a cocktail and waters but the beer we ordered was delayed by a few minutes. Not a big deal, but then the night went south. We didn't see our server again for a very long time. We started to feel like our appetizer was a little delayed when food runners showed up with our entrees. No app in sight. We let them know and eventually the server brought our app. But we were halfway into the meal by that point. The food tasted fine. Nothing extraordinary but not bad. The nachos, I admit, were delicious. The mac and cheese we ordered was described to have bread crumbs but was missing that. Fortunately the server had it taken care of pretty quickly. We were never asked about having our drinks refilled. And after eating, we waited a long time for our check. It just seemed to take forever for everything. None of the problems by themselves would have been a big deal, but together it added up to a somewhat unpleasant experience. The server was nice and apologetic. They also comped us the appetizer which was nice. May have been an off night or maybe a new server, but I can't say I would recommend going on a Saturday night. Also, we did enjoy the outdoor seating area. It was a little tight, but the ambiance was nice."
