"Instead of the brisket that used to be in the beans, we were given what looked and tasted like hot dogs—probably their sausage, which we don’t like at all. The beans were much less enjoyable this way. Honestly, it would have been better to skip the brisket entirely than to have sausage as a substitute. The sausage was tough and unappealing.
Additionally, the fried bread, which is usually crispy and light, was very greasy, and the potato salad was more spices than potatoes. To make matters worse, our portions were not even full. The larger sides were about three-quarters full, and the individual portions were roughly two-thirds full—definitely not enough for a single serving. Each individual side cost $4, but we only received a few small bites, making it feel like we were paying $1 per bite. This is just absurd.
All of this left us feeling incredibly disappointed. We have been coming to this place for years, and it has always been a favorite of ours. This meal was meant to celebrate my husband’s first big meal after my hospital stay, and its quality only made it more disappointing. If this is the new standard for quality and portion sizes, we will have to look for a new BBQ spot. I wouldn’t even mind the price increases if they maintained the quality and portions we used to enjoy. Based on their past reputation, I’m giving them a 3, but if I were to judge solely based on this experience, they would only get a 1."
