"Not sure about Authentic anymore.. I remember a time when Amigos was the spot and to some degree it still is. The food remains the same, which is good because you always know what to expect from them every time you sit down. I think most can agree that Amigos reigns supreme as the king of 'cheese dip ' <br/ <br/ Over the last few years the Hispanic population has doubled and maybe even tripled within Chattanooga. The Hispanic population require a sense of home taste therefore the boom of hole in the wall Mexican restaurants emerged within the cracks and nooks of Chattanooga. The difference is night and day when you really look at the surface. Whenever you walk into Amigos who do you see? You see American families lining booths and tables. Take a drive down to Taco Roc (Lee Hwy) At any given time of day you will see a mixed bag of people and mainly Hispanic. The last time I was at Taco Roc there was a line of Mexican construction workers from different companies inside eating and ordering. If they are the ones eating there thats where the AUTHENTIC flavor resides. You won 't find Hamburger on a true, authentic Mexican restaurant. This is where Amigos has gone wrong, they are trying to cater too much to the American family and not the roots of Mexican Cuisine and I feel that it is absurd.....<br/ <br/ I use Taco Roc as a mere example as that there are plenty other places in Chattanooga that are 'Authentic ' and cater to the flavors of Mexican Cuisine and that alone.<br/ <br/ Amigos will continue to strive as a business because despite all that I have said the food is 'good ' not great. The service has always been wonderful and food is on your table in no time. As far as Authentic is concerned, well something is lost in the plate."

"We were in town camping at the State Park and visiting family. Wanted a place on the water to get some lunch. We found Amigos Mexican restaurant on the water! We are excited about that and the reviews were good so we gave it a try. From the outside it looks good but once you walk in the door you can tell this place needs a DEEP cleaning. We decided to give it a trywe should have trusted our first impression. We were seated out by the lane with a great view of the lake. That said the place was filthy. Our waitress was pretty good and she was very attentive. We ordered off the lunch menu. My wife ordered lunch #7 with a tamale, flauta and a chimichanga. I got Lola’s Tapito. Wife started to eat her flauta and there was a pretty good size piece of plastic in it! we told the waitress she was kind and wife ordered a couple soft tacos instead, which she didn’t eat all of them. Needless to say she didn’t have much of an appetite after that. Also ordered a frozen margarita no salt only to have our waitress come back and tell her the machine that makes them was broken and brought a regular one with salt! Chipsokay they are tortilla chips but the first bowl we received must have been the bottom of the bag as the chips were mostly crumbs! Now all of that to say we had a bad experience and while we’re just passing through probably won’t come back if we’re in the area again. I do give our waitress credit she didn’t charge us for my wife’s meal at all. I’m sure during the summer this place is rocking, maybe if it slacks off during the winter months some cleaning would be in the agenda."
