"This once clever and popular seafood eatery is no more. They recently completed a makeover and I was ready to chow down when I arrived. To my shock and disbelief, the restaurant was less than 1/2 the size it was before. I didn't recognize anyone from my previous visits in fact it turns out that hands have changed. There were two long tables not 12 and no table cloths with rickety metal chairs. The area around the cash register seemed like it was hastily rigged with bare plywood, nails sticking out and flimsy plastic around the machine for protection . I asked why they had down sized so much and the owner/manager said that they lost a lot of business since the CDC had basically shut down. They all work from home now. I was saddened but something was off. There was a machine stocked with an assortment of well chilled soft drinks and water and their display of fresh fish on ice was there as well. The chalk board had many new items advertised and so I placed my order to go. However, that is where the similarities to the former ended. There was a redo of the menu as I expected and prices have gone up yet again. The first up grade to the prices came a little over a year ago and as I eat raw oysters, it was very noticeably much higher priced. The old standard Shacktastic items were there but I was alone and didn't want a huge meal sitting at one of the two tables. I ordered something new on the menu because the picture was glorious. It was a platter of beautifully fried fresh calamari which looked as good as I have ever seen anywhere. So I ordered that, a side of 6 hushpuppies and a soda from the machine. I got my brown bag to go and noticed it was all under a single dinner sized Styrofoam box. I quickly drove home and to my surprise, the hushpuppies were the size of walnuts . They tasted good but they weren't the same as before. The french fries were ordered cajun style which meant they had a dusting of spice on the top. They had been frozen, I could tell as they were crinkle cut and dry on the inside. Now to the worst part of my visit. The beautiful plate of calamari turned into the smallest prebreaded and frozen tiny bites ever. I think that is either bait and switch or false advertising. I paid $20.00 for my meal and threw most of it away. If you want to return or try it for the first time, ask if the seafood is fresh. The catfish, Swai and tilapia are on ice as are the shrimp but not the calamari. In my opinion, the current management has no clue as to why their business is off unless he was justifying his slowly sinking ship. No pictures!!!"

"Desire is right at bourbon street, so it is easy to find and before dinner there is much to see. the personal was all so nice; we only wish that some of the food was a little tastier, I would say that this is really a 3.5 star rating. we had a reservation of 20:30 on Tuesday night, but at 18 o'clock it came there. they were pretty busy asking us to return to our planned time (which was completely okay with us! but ended up in a position to put us about 5 minutes later. the host and our server were all very nice. we ordered: char grilled oysters who liked was good that they came hot out of the cake. 5 of the 6 oysters we got, however, were sandy contained envelope. (this seemed to be the norm at most places, but not in that a fancier restaurant we went to. bummer. the compromise (1 2 garnelen 1 2 tern po 'boy there was a ton of garnel and oyster! I would say that the garnel content was especially dry and little taste. I'm not sure that the broth was spiced on the garlands with any spices. I added the hot sauce at the end, but what it really needed was mayonnaise sauce. the oyster part was really delicious the oysters were all plump and juicy, but again mayonnaise sauce would have made it even better. the creole trio (red bohnen reis, jambalaya and gumbo all items were good. how, solid good. this chewing gum was the kind with okra, which is good. the rice and jambalaya had a lot of meat in them as much! Overall I would say that eating was a solid 3 stars. the location and the people were great. note: they have a full cash and I wanted a drink, but I didn't want anything super-sirupic. I was approaching the unoccupied bartender, hi! I wondered if you had something sweet but not sirup sweet. their answer was, they should probably drink somewhere else. I thought that meant you were annoying, please go away. but she could have made me literally and put less juice in it. Oh, good."

"We booked a reservation for 2 6:45 Saturday night via OpenTable since the phone listed goes to an automated message and we were not sure if our call would be returned in time for a dinner reservation. We had a short wait at the bar but were seated exactly on time. I wish that one of us had ordered the beef rib special ! Another table ordered it and it looked wonderfully delicious!!Next time!! We started with the Caesar salad . Yummy with the right amount of dressing. Note to staff: please consider bringing the delicious cheese biscuits with the salads instead of before.. We probably looked like we were starving but they were gone before we started our salads. We had the sirloin and ribeye and both were generous steaks. And not to worry, our server brought us some extra biscuits! The baked potatoes were very good simply dressed with butter as we requested. We raise and eat our own premium angus beef and are usually not impressed with restaurant steaks. We are concerned about restaurants not sourcing their beef from the USA but these were definitely the real deal. They were beautifully trimmed and perfectly seasoned. Rich beef flavor and cooked to perfection. We skipped dessert due to the generous portions so we cannot comment on that. All the staff were busy with the full house and we were very well attended by Reagan. She was professional and very knowledgeable about the origin of the beef we were served. This is a restaurant that can seat large family groups in the open layout so there is some conversational noise but it is very pleasant to see families enjoying this restaurant! Thank you for a lovely dinner and we fully expect to return and bring our friends."
