"This is a mexican restaurant whose quality is worthy of a Lafayette eatery, but it is nestled in the Center of Ville Platte. The first and foremost item on the menu is the chips and salsa combination. SERVED COLD OR WARM, THE SALSA HAS A WARM SMOKY FLAVOR, WITH NONE OF THE OVER SWEETNESS OF SOME TOMATO BASED SALSAS! The guacamole is fresh and delicious, however, it could use a touch of sea salt. I had the chilies relleno. It was s serving of two very large chilies stuffed with cheese. I've had better, but they were fairly good. I couldn't put my finger on the sauce. The mexican rice that accompanied this was fluffy and flavorful. It could have used a touch of salt. The refried white beans had all the flavor of black beans, but pales by comparison visually. Their fajitas, fresh and piping hot are to die for. The steak is zesty and smoky, perfection itself, while the chicken is equally tasty. Their salads are generous and have a great mexican kick to them. All in all, for our neighborhood, I think El Charros rates three stars!"
