"However, after driving 45 minutes back home, I was disappointed by the flavors. The oxtails had no seasoning at all—tender, but completely lacking in salt or pepper. The jerk chicken tasted more like country-fried chicken with just a hint of spice and was quite bland. The cabbage was soggy, the rice and peas were also mushy, and everything lacked flavor. The mac and cheese, which I only treat myself to once a month, was particularly disappointing—it tasted like boiled noodles with just a sprinkle of cheese, no real flavor whatsoever.
I can't help but feel that this place is a soul food restaurant attempting to serve Caribbean dishes that really don’t capture the essence of the cuisine. Maybe I'm just accustomed to authentic Caribbean food. I should have taken a hint when I saw the buffet-style setup without coverings, but I wanted to support a Black-owned business.
What happened to the pride in preparing food and running a business? This is the fourth Black-owned food establishment I've visited in Baltimore, and I haven’t been pleased with the taste or preparation at any of them. After this experience, I doubt I will try dining out in Baltimore again. This place has sealed that decision for me."
