"I loved old vitos and was hesitant to give the new place a try because expansion usually leads to changes that were the key to the success before. Vitos was the first place i went when i moved to irving 17 years ago. Chicken artichoke and mushroom alfredo pizza and chicken piccata were the staple. I remember the old pizza place salads that were just like a lump of lettuce and tomatoes and ranch dressing that were hot because it sat under the hot foods.. but still managed to be delicious. Now they charge 3 bucks for a salad that came with the meal. But this isnt about the price, they quality is different. First let me say, this place needs to take steak off the menu until u get quality meat or cooks who understand how to season and cook it. Ordered the ribeye for 27 dollars medium rare. The steak was so over cooked i feel like it was cooked, put in the microwave, then back on the grill until u could physically see the soul of the cow leave it. Even for take out they should know that when cooking medium rare to around 130 degrees it should be taken off because it will cook more as it rests. 30 bucks wasted on something comparable to an IHOP steak. Something in the veggie quality is off but i cant quite put my finger on it. Before the piccata was just a bowl with pasta , sauce with capers and two or three chicken breasts and it was delicious. Now they add very over cooked veggie mush on the side/top of the dish to go and ruin the flavor. Asparagus way over cooked with the lobster ravioli. Very light handed on the garlic spread on the bread.. very bland. Salt or more flavor is missing from the classics but the bones of how great it use to be is still there. POSITIVES: Portions are still the best anywhere in town, the food was scorching hot even after drive home, and the young man at the take out counter,(seemed like a highschool kid) was very sweet even though u could tell he was new. Vitos still is a decent place for pizza (Stromboli massive and good)but i wont be dropping 100 dollars here for a while after this last visit left me knowing i should have just kept the good memories from across the street."
