"I 'm continuing on my quest to find the best places for Peking Duck in the LA area. This came up on a Yelp search. This is my first time here. It 's on Valley Blvd. just east of Del Mar, on the south side of Valley. The ambiance/decor is very nice. Plenty of free parking in the back. I preordered one Peking duck the basic way $72.99), which is with just soup. When I called from my office at noon, I thought they said it would be ready at 1:00, so I got there at 12:50. It did not come out until 1:35. They said that they don 't cut it until you arrive, so it was supposed to be ready at 1:30 rather than 1:00. In any event, if you plan to have duck here and you 're on a schedule, call in advance to make sure they have some left, and have them be clear on when it will actually be served if it matters. When it finally did come out, the presentation is very nice. It comes on a wooden platter with BEIJING TASTY HOUSE ROAST DUCK inscribed on it. I actually wonder if the delay was because they only have so many platters to serve the duck on, and they had to wait for the party next to me to leave. The Peking duck comes with 8-10 pancakes, depending on how many stick together as a thick pancake. Extra pancakes are $5.99. The duck itself is a generous portion and was very good and delicately sliced. I don 't like the way the serve the cucumbers- they are not peeled and just roughly chopped. I prefer the way The Duck House peels and slices them into very thin strands. I also think that for a dish over $80 with the tax, they should use real silverware for the plum sauce. They used a plastic spoon which was weird with the very nice platter. The duck soup is enormous, beautiful and flavorful, with tofu and tender Napa cabbage along with the duck bones and skin. It is better than most duck soups that come with Peking duck. I 'll enjoy the soup as leftovers almost as much as the duck.I also ordered Beijing-style braised eggplant $15.99). It comes with ground pork. It was very flavorful and great on steamed rice. I also got the cucumber in garlic sauce $8.99). The cucumbers were a very generous portion but were just ok. I 'm editing my review after having the duck and soup leftovers for dinner. That soup is divine and I 'll be back for it. Changed my review from four to five stars.
