"I was planning a nice dinner out and was considering the Blue Heron. I went to the website to see If I could book online. I noticed they are still requiring proof of 2 shots of vaccine to enter and eat? What is going on with that? It seems like these restrictions are ending even in the most liberal of places. It seems very discriminatory to exclude folks who may be fully healthy and not in a highly effected bracket as far as Covid-19 is concerned. And since you can still carry and transmit this virus even with THREE shots, it almost seems like this is political? They also had some highly questionable political banners posted on their website as well. We wont be considering Blue Heron now or in the future. To bad because the food is excellent. Sometimes principle trumps all."

Delicious, seasonal food one of the highest quality (and relatively expensive) dining experiences in Western Mass. Plenty of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options well marked on the menu. View menu

Top ten restaurant with well balanced classics with a twist like a silky olive sauce with lamb, or blue cheese bacon wrapped dates. Save room for dessert not overly sweet and well worth every calorie.

Had a lovely anniversary dinner here. We were in town visiting friends and came based on their recommendation. The menu did not disappoint. We had the salad, scallops, and chicken. All were delicious.

Nice. Busy but not crowded. Good sized menu. Good server. Casual but upscale. Easy. Good location, cool building. Doneness of filet not great but still a very good product. We feel like going back more regularly. View menu

Went here for a friend’s birthday and it was really an amazing experience. We started the meal with ricotta bread and ended with ricotta donuts. We were able to ask for a replacement of powdered sugar instead of cinnamon sugar on the donuts, and they accommodated us wonderfully. They get an extra point because that also means they make the dessert on the spot!

we have heard so many good things about this restaurant. we have finally gone, have been very disappointed. the place looks like a dungeon, in the dark. the main disappointment, however, is eating. I ordered a cod with a spatula and borons? who serves to borrow fish? my dinner was tasteless and rough looking. my man had submitted mignon, that was medium rare, but very cheesy. total not the money worth. we will not come back.

"As a food professional, I very really comment on this forums on the work of colleagues; notwithstanding, leaving behind praises for chef/owner Howard Wein and his team is necessary. I've been visiting the Montague Book Mill on and off for a period of years: I met my wife there, I had (prior COVID 19) professional meetings with peers from NT/VT under the auspice of its walls and gardens: the Alvah Stone is always the highlight of the visit. A couple of months back I reached out to chef Wein to ask for a particular favor: I wanted to organize a small gathering in lieu of my wedding reception for family. As noted before, this is a place of emotional significance for my wife and I, and given the restrictions in place at the moment, it has the benefit to have the most precious outdoor siting in the Pioneer Valley. Chef Wein and his team worked with me to make this memory was (1) safe for all attendees, (2) accesible for people with dietary restrictions, (3) tasty I dare to say outstandingly delicious, (4) stress free with clear communication throughout the planning process, and (5) extra luxurious given the ongoing challenges of COVID 19.Trying to support the Alvah Stone as a regular customer during COVID 19, I can see why some guests might find disposable ware or no reservation policy troublesome; however, its is important to note that (1) the quality of food/beverage at the Alvah Stone remain top of the notch, best of the Valley, and (2) hospitality provided is unblemished despite general labor shortage and inherited risk of working service positions in restaurants nationwide. Both kitchen and deck staff work gracefully and tirelessly to make this spot a destination when visiting or living along the Connecticut River.Just like the Michelin Guide would recommend for a 3 star country French restaurant: the Alvah Stone is worth a detour!"
