"BEST cocktails I have had in NOVA. I went on Experimental Wednesday and have rarely been so impressed by a bar 's creative mixology, not to mention the craft skill put into the presentation. Considering how small and intimate the space is, they 've done an amazing job adhering to COVID-19 health standards. I sadly never went before quarantine so I can 't speak to the normal atmosphere of the place but as it is now, it is a mellow, mysterious spot perfect for an intimate evening. The theming is unique and whimsical. In case you haven 't studied their website yet, the name is taken from the mythic inventor of the donut, a sea captain who stuck his mother 's sweet roll on one of the spokes of the ship 's wheel so he could stay on course and eat, creating the iconic pastry shape. They even serve donuts on the small plate menu! This is an amazing find (quite literally- my date and I wandered around the dark and empty Elizabeth 's Counter for a couple minutes before finding the secret flag doorbell, which made it all the more electric when the wooden wall slid open)."

There weren't any mocktails on the menu and I wasn't drinking. I told the bartender Nick to make me whatever every drink he created was amazing. All the food was good but I took off a star because it took forever for the scallops I ordered to come out.

Incredible drinks combined with a knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly staff. Small plates are absolutely delicious; the Brussels sprouts were roasted to perfection. The atmosphere here is great; from the seating arrangements to the secret door entrance, this is not a place you want to pass up.

Super cool speakeasy behind the wall of a donut shop. Make a reservation. The cocktails are pretty good.Cool atmosphere. Awesome music. They were nice enough to give us donuts when we were leaving. (I don't know if that's standard practice there, the waitress gave them to me out of courtesy for not liking my drink) View menu

Exquisite cocktails and service while seated at the bar. Every concoction is complex, delicately balanced and delicious. The glassware is also carefully selected. The bartender graciously answered our many questions while mixing cocktails with great dexterity. Not to be missed: the potato croquettes, every bite a piece of heaven.

WOW! Captain Gregory’s delivered with the wow factor. Believe it or not, both of these were Mocktails!! It is so hard to find places that are able to make mocktail that seem the the real deal and they went above and beyond. Even though they don’t have a set mocktail menu, I appreciated they were able do a special request. They do a rotating alcohol menu so everything changes frequently which is so fun. I can’t wait to go back.

"This place really helped me adjust. I later learned that people gravitate towards certain bars, and I found my favorites, especially those with live music like Birchmere, Black Cat, 9:30 Club, Lincoln, Capital One Arena, and even the now-closed O'Shaughnessy's and Rock & Roll Hotel. One of my most memorable experiences was running into Rory Sheridan on one of my first visits. He was launching his DC music campaign back then and was part of Loud Boyz. We chatted a few times, and I even caught up with some old classmates. Another highlight was when I heard about a “reunion” night before Thanksgiving, and I decided to crash it. There were moments where people could be unkind or I felt out of place, but I was given some guidance on where I would fit in better, without the unnecessary drama. Being in Old Town, I was familiar with nearby schools like West Potomac, Mount Vernon, and Bishop Ireton. During my visits, I would often take an Alexandria cab or use Metro Access, being discreet about my disability since I felt embarrassed at times. Being a regular meant navigating the tourist scene, and there were people who seemed territorial about the place, but I ended up doing quite well when I sold my house. Good times continued with events like watching RG3 play for the Redskins or meetups organized by JT. I enjoyed New Year’s celebrations and weekend outings. I also frequented other establishments like Flying Fish before it closed, and O'Shaughnessy's before I decided to stop drinking. This is a sports bar located near a bicycle shop, close to the Ben & Jerry's I used to work at, along with many other walkable bars for bar hopping, like Union Street Pub and Fish Market. It can be a great place to have fun, but with the good comes some downsides. Overall, I felt well-hosted and respected here, despite some things I was not initially aware of or didn’t want to uncover."
