"Our family traveled to Pittsburgh for a sporting event. Afterwards, I was in the mood for some 'GOOD ' Soul Food. Since this was unfamiliar territory, I asked the hotel staff for a recommendation. He referred me to another place (Soul and Sea). I 'll provide a review of them another time. We went to Downtown Pittsburgh, only to find blocks of restaurants and bars. We walked up and down for awhile trying decide where to eat. We stumbled across Carmi and decided to give it a try. This is a clean, small, quaint place. We had a large party, so we had to sit in separate booths. This didn 't suit us, so we left for another place down the street. Well, it wound up that some of our party left. So, we returned to Carmi. Oh My Goodness!!!!!! Were we glad to have done so...... This place is 'PHENOMENAL '.... The food was outstanding!! The portions were beyond expectation and the place had a nice atmosphere. There is also a small bar to satisfy One 's thirst. The FOOD: There was NO shortage of Cornbread. It was moist and had a hint of sugar. My Porkchops were cooked to perfection, along w/ the Collards and Yams. My other family members had Chicken and Waffles, Ribs w/ Mac and Cheese. Delicious!!!!! Let 's not forget the portions. All of us had enough food leftover for another day. The STAFF: As good as the meals. They were very welcoming, accommodating, courteous, professional and friendly. The staff wears masks, however you 're not required to. PRICING: Very reasonable. Especially, for the amount of food received. Our visit was a VERY enjoyable experience. When in Pittsburgh, be sure to visit Carmi. YOU and your stomach will be happy for it. This is a 'YUMMMMMM ' Recommendation!! PLEASE LIKE, RATE FOLLOW ME....."

I had the shrimp and grits with extra bacon, along with cornbread and a side of fish stew, and it was an incredibly delicious meal. Definitely the best shrimp and grits in town! I absolutely loved it and will definitely return!

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. I attempted to place an order for pickup through their website, which claimed they were open, but only allowed pickups from the north side location. I paid online and went in person, only to find it closed. I tried calling, but the phone number doesn't work.

Maybe I caught you on a bad day but as someone from the south I’m embarrassed that you called this soul food. No flavor, no sauce. I got Mac and cheese, brisket, meatloaf, and mashed potatoes. How can you smoke brisket and it have no flavor?? The meatloaf looks like pig brains. I’m so sad I chose to spend my money on this in hopes of getting comfort food.

I am on the Carnivore diet only eating mea, so I ordered just the meat without any sausages. The ribs were outstanding. The steak was very good as well. We went because there was supposed to be live music, but it had been canceled. Also note that they can not sit groups of more than 4 at one table. I would go back. Seems like a nice place, and the food was well worth it.

The best chicken and waffles I've ever had. The fried chicken breast takes about 20 minutes to cook, but I assure you, IT'S WORTH IT (extra crispy on the outside, superjuicy on the inside, falling from the bone tender). Portion size was perfect (even if I was a little disappointed that I could not clean my dish). The staff was polite and attentive, although it was busy. Atmosphere was friendly and fun with many families and friends, and great music. 11/10 will definitely come back (spirit try the catfish and grotto next time)!

We ordered their full thanksgiving meal. It was delicious. There was so much food I think we could have fed 10+ comfortably. Everything was prepared perfectly, all we had to do was cook the Turkey and heat the sides. The Turkey was so juicy and delicious all the sides were amazing seasoned perfectly and delicious. We had some trouble with finding the instructions but the owner who was so kind got them to me in no time. Everything was literally perfect. In my efforts to buy Black and spend Black, I took my daughter there while we visited home during COVID. The experience was less than desirable, yet understandable because of the pandemic. During our recent visit, we viewed people eating Burger King takeout seated at the window peculiar to say the least. We asked if it was dine in and we 're told, NOPE, EVERYTHING IS TAKE OUT . In astonishment we continued to gaze at the couple SEATED eating BURGER KING!! This is beyond untenable for any establishment let alone a Black one. They 'll never see another dime from me or anyone associated with me be it business or personal. We left immediately. DO BETTER.

My whole family went to Carmi last night to celebrate my birthday. We were a party of 10, and had reservations . We sat almost immediately and had a wonderful waiter, Nate, who couldn't do enough for us! And all with a smile on his face and in his voice! The food was excellent. Everyone at my party took care of our meal. I had shrimps and grits. It came in a large bowl. I ordered extra shrimps. Every bite was delicious! The corn bread was pleasantly moist and sweet.
