"This restaurant is fantastic! It is like a hidden treasure, especially since it is tucked away on the street of Hickory! I have been going to Hickory Hollow my whole life, but Kutschenhaus is now my go-to spot for chicken fried steak (CFS)! I wish I had discovered this place sooner. I think they are even better than Goodson's Cafe, which claims to have the best CFS. I can promise you that their CFS is tender, perfectly fried, and smothered in just the right amount of gravy. Their banana pudding is also delicious and something I always order when I dine here. The chicken starters are good, the stuffed potatoes are tasty, and they offer burgers, BBQ, and many other options as well. But what I love more than the CFS is the atmosphere. This place exudes Texas charm, with carriages, horses, and tons of antique furniture. It's a fantastic spot for anyone to dine, whether they are alone, with family, or with colleagues. It's also a great place to showcase Texas to out-of-town visitors. I believe they also host events and parties, so I'm certain they can accommodate large groups if needed. It's a wonderful find, and I'm grateful that someone recommended it to me. You absolutely must try Kutschenhauskafe! You won't be disappointed if you love Texas and good food."

I had some of the best chicken fried chicken I've ever tasted at this restaurant. The building and decor were really tidy. The sides were also delicious. Although it is located in a busy area with lots of traffic, it is definitely worth the trip. View menu

always good! Chicken tenders are amazing! the burgers are great. if I had to choose between hickory hollow or this place, they are both down the road from each other, this place wins each time. Moreover, the place should be a museum with all antiques inside.

we had a wonderful lunch. a large cheeseburger with fresh fry’s, a very juicy 16oz chicken fried steak with a good refreshing salad and sweet potato and a very tasty and juicy chicken over tomato, with some delicious wobble rings and mais nuggets! I didn't make any photos....we had to get out and ate everything!

Our group of 12 arrived at 12 noon. Ordering was a very slow process. Some ordered onion rings only to find they were out of OR’s. My turn, order the 2 meat BBQ combo. Ribs no ribs). Brisket, was told they just ran out. I ask how that was when they had just opened at 11:30 am (no answer). Was told only BBQ available was sausage. I settled for the sausage. Took 30-40 minutes to bring our food.Soda/ice machine out of order (self serve). There was a small bowl with ice, but emptied after 3-4 people got ice. Refilled the bowl about 15 minutes later. Eating utensils were dirty and sticky.Parking lot has several big pot holes, which limits parking spaces, as well the lot had several big water pudd...

Stay away. Stay far, far away.I'm doing this review will sitting in the cafe itself. The cleanliness of the tables is poor. The majority of the tables are littered with dishes, they make you pay Upfront for a reason. Though literally there are only three tables waiting to receive Food, I have been waiting over 45 minutes for a burger. Considering this is a lunch crowd and does not serve dinner, you'd think they'd be able to do better. The burger was not bad, but considering I ordered a jalapeno burger I didn't get it it was a disappointment. Also it was raw in the middle. The gumbo was mediocre. And they brought out the rice 10 minutes after they go to the lukewarm gumbo. They literally had n...

"Food good. Location good. Service good. BUT, the hidden charges REALLY ruined an otherwise nice experience. Example: HH menu lists Martinis as a $3 upcharge to the $7 base charge. Fair enough. Bombay is a listed alcohol; requested. When the bill was returned I was charged for a Bombay Sapphire which is not on the HH list. Charge? $11 $3. I asked for Bombay, not Bombay Sapphire. Waiter: Oh, let me look into that. AND, by the way Blue Cheese olives? Extra $1. REALLY? I 've NEVER paid extra for BC olives ANYWHERE. AND the confusing menus that a dish as including an extra sauce, [and I don 't recall the exact language but it made it seem that an additional items could be selected as well. Oops, there goes an extra $10.95. AND, the waiter recommending a twice-baked potato. Bah, boom, another $5.95. [which in fairness is disclosed on the menu in a different location, but waiter made it sound as if it was a no-charge option on the surf and turf. AND the split plate charge which I don 't think was disclosed on the menu. Ding, ding, extra $3.00. Was this a waiter, who was overly up-selling or restaurant deception? Don 't know. As I said, the food WAS good. AND, the ambience [at least in the bar area, stay away of the hotel-ballroom-like main dining area was nice. Just beware the nickel and dime charges that the waiter won 't be disclosing to you."
