"Chaval was recommended to us by a family member as a great date night location, however it was okay at best.We had reservations for dinner and we were able to be seated within our time frame. The staff while friendly did seem a bit disorganized as three different people came to our table to start service. We ordered drinks and appetizers but the appetizers took almost 45 minutes to arrive. When dinner arrived the only dishes that looked good was the venison and the burger. The beef cheeks looked thrown on the plate and the pasta looked like a bowl of solid black noodles with a pile of gelatin on top.Everyone agreed the venison was the best dish. The burger was overcooked and dry. The lobster noodles tasted like a salt shaker was mixed in the noodles and the beef cheeks were unflattering. Not quite sure what happened in the kitchen but it did seem like someone was trying to copy a recipe. The final nail in the coffin was our server left for the evening and once again we were bounced between three different people. For the price $50+/per person) there are definitely better options in the area. We actually went for other food after dinner since people did not want to finish thier dishes. Not sure if they just had an off night or what but for the price it shouldn't be that off."

Every server was thoroughly familiar with the menu and cocktails. The food is amazing, prepared in a traditional manner with some unique twists, and it arrives beautifully presented. I've never felt so welcomed at a restaurant before. This place should definitely become a regular spot!

Everything about Chaval that's been written in previous reviews is true. However, for the prices, the portions are tiny. We ordered five dishes and they were all minuscule, not nearly enough for two people. The food is really good, but for these prices, i felt terribly disappointed.Food: 3/5

Food was solid though it did take quite a bit to arrive (45 mins to an hour), during which the waitress never checked in to ask if we wanted additional drinks. Not much atmosphere to speak of in the back room either. We enjoyed our experience at Chaval a few years ago, but this time was disappointing. Excellent desserts.Food: 4/5 View menu

What a fantastic place! There were six of us, and we loved the cozy little private room downstairs. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were excellent. The food was outstanding. I had the venison, and it was cooked to perfection. The pâté appetizer was delicious, and the churros for dessert were amazing as well. I would definitely return!

Wow!! What a meal...what great people. I haven't been to Portland in years and was lucky enough to drop in or a cocktail at Chaval. By the time I left, I had met Damian and Ilma and many of the staff. All wonderful and all with so much knowledge to share. And the food..... unbelievable!! From special cocktails by Asher to side dishes, main dishes and dessert.Head over the West End in Portland and grab dinner at Chaval. You won't be disappointed !!

After spending over $350 for a table of four, we were left utterly disappointed. The menu promised intriguing dishes with unique flavors, but everything we tried was bland, with the exception of the blue fish, which was excessively salty. I reached out to the restaurant to discuss our experience, but unfortunately, I never received a callback. My advice would be to save your time and money. As for parking, it was fine; we had a 4:30 reservation and were the first customers there. View menu

Next, I ordered the "Brunch in Paris," and oh my goodness, it was delicious. The fried egg was perfectly cooked, with the yolk oozing into the baguette that was generously slathered in warm, creamy Brie and topped with onion jam. It truly was a flavor explosion! The dish came with a vibrant green salad dressed with a light, zesty vinaigrette that complemented everything beautifully. I also have to mention the decor—exposed wooden beams, stylish navy paint that contrasts well with the wood, creating a cozy yet chic atmosphere that matches the music and overall vibe. I haven’t been this captivated by a Portland eatery in years!

Very disappointed with the food. Tasteless, overpriced, very small quantity for the price they charged. I had a salad that it had a few lettuce maybe 3 pieces of radishes 3 crumbs of goat cheese and maybe a few drops of dressing, I thought maybe they forgot to add the dressing. It was so terrible, even the people on the next table asked the server if their salad had dressing because they add so little dressing to the salads. I don't want my lettuce drenched in dressing, but common that was ridiculous!! For my entree I had cod and the portion was about 2 oz with a teaspoon of some white sauce and 2 pieces of a vegetable which cost more than $30 ?Was sat in a back room on a very uncomfortable...
