"Curry Up Now turned out to be a big bait and switch. When it first opened the tikka masala was made with white meat chicken breast, as it's supposed to be....as it is at every other Indian restaurant....as it is traditionally. But Curry Up Now decided to be cheap and sneakily start using brown meat chicken thigh instead. I found this out by ordering from the Oakland Curry Up Now, after confirming with them that it was indeed white meat in the tikka masala. They said it was. However when it was delivered to me, it was disgusting brown meat chicken thigh. I hate brown meat chicken and this chicken thigh meat was particularly disgusting and gristly. I called them back and the guy argued with me and said tikka masala has always been made with brown meat chicken. Well that's a lie!! No, it never is! I also asked for my money back just for this one dish, but they rudely refused. I thought it had to just be this one location, because shortly prior to this I went to another location and the tikka masala was made with chicken breast. So today I went to the Alameda location. Again they told me it was definitely white meat chicken breast in the tikka masala. However, when I received the order it was once again brown meat chicken thigh (of which there were maybe five tiny little chunks of meat, which I gave to my dog). At least the Alameda location was friendly. I was late to work so had no time to go back and ask for a refund however. Generally I would say don't go here, especially the Oakland location. They charged me $16 (chutney duo added) for this gross slop that they call a tikka masala bowl...and for that price they can't even give you what it's supposed to be ...white meat chicken! I will never go back and I will write more reviews because I think this is a really nasty bait and switch tactic. To lure customers into your good graces only to pull the rug out from under them, and then not acknowledge doing so, is beneath reproach in my opinion."

The food was delicious, and there's a lot to appreciate. However, the samosas are quite pricey at $4 each. Aside from that, it was a very tasty meal.

Delicious variety of Indian food, good sized portions, friendly staff, spacious eating area, great music playing, self serve soda machine, and clean bathrooms.

Was disappointed compared to the location in San Mateo. Everything was already made here and just tastes like americanized Indian food. Mango lassi was pretty good though.

Really good and unique dishes. One big complaint though. Curry Up is very much it's own take on Indian street food. Pictures would be super helpful and go a long way to helping navigate the menu. View menu

Really good! Beautiful amount of spices, fast service and affordable. Good menu, too. There are many other things I want to try. Make yourself a favor and look at the website. The menu in the restaurant has no pictures and the on the website look fantastic. I'm going back.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend, and I absolutely loved the food. Everything I've tried, from the appetizers to the main dishes and desserts, was delicious. I highly recommend the dessert called Hot Balls on Ice. The name never fails to make my friends and me laugh, but it's incredibly tasty and a delightful surprise. I definitely recommend this place for the food!

I had a fantastic dining experience with amazing food. The staff are very attentive and assist greatly in exploring new dishes. The curry was rich in flavor and had a delightful sharpness. I tried the ghee makhni butter chicken burrito, naan, samosas, and thick-cut sweet potato fries, paired with a refreshing ginger-mint lemonade. All of the food was delicious and satisfying, and it definitely hit the spot. I highly recommend this restaurant! View menu

The thali I ordered was bland, but sufficient for satisfying a quick hunger while out buying craft supplies next door at Michael’s. The tomato sauce, which accompanied my paneer dish, was reminiscent of that found in canned children’s fare, such as Chef Boyardee’s Ravioli or Spaghetti O’s probably unbalanced with too much sugar. My Kolkata born, Bengali husband also found his biryani to be lackluster. It’s definitely a fast food offering, with spice and complex flavor left out to reach a larger customer base.

I am not a frequent eater here because my family has very basic taste but today I insisted because I wanted real and flavorful food. I've was here when they just opened and 1 other time. Each of my 3 visits they are out of 1/2 of the fountain drinks, which is disappointing because they serve Stubborn and it is pricey. Last time I had to ask for a refund because the selection wasn't worth the cost. Today they had 1 flavor we wanted. Still, very disappointing. Food is good and different but a tad too salty. I don't like the physical menu, as it is difficult to read. They took the meatballs off that the server said was popular and that was what I really came back for. Food is too pricey for the...

"Tasty authentic Vietnamese dishes made in a mom and pop restaurant in Oakland on the corner of East 12th Street and 11th Avenue. We got the Hu Tieu Mi Kho (Dried egg noodles), Pho Dac Biet (Beef Pho with various cuts of beef), and the Bo Kho (beef stew) that comes with a Vietnamese baguette to dip in the stew. These 3 dishes totaled about $45 after taxes. Two of the dishes (dried noodles and the pho) were full of flavor and you can smell and taste some of the traditional spices and herbs that come with them. The Dried egg noodles come with 2 quail eggs, 2 shrimp, a couple slices of pork, slices of pork kidney and liver, minced pork, bits of chicharron (fried pork belly skin), chives, cilantro, green onions, and blanched mung bean sprouts with a bowl of broth on the side. It comes with Vietnamese pickled jalapenos, sate paste, and a soy based sauce to mix in with the noodles. Was very authentic and delicious! There was even minced garlic in the dry noodles, which added another nice layer of flavor to this dish. The second dish, beef stew, although it smelled right, was more of a soup than braised stew. It was watered down (and tasted watered down too) and would have gone better with noodles. Way too watery for the baguette to really dip or scoop up the flavor. Made the bread a soggy mush. Plus there was not that many pieces of beef (they used flank with the membrane intact), and only 2 slices of carrot. We had to scoop to the bottom of the container to raise the beef, above the broth for the photo. Otherwise we almost mistook it for the container of broth for the pho. I would pass on getting the beef stew next time since the value of what you pay and flavor were somewhat lacking. Lastly we tried the pho dac biet and it was tasty with a nice balanced broth before you add the herbs and condiments (hoisin, sriracha, etc). It comes with the usual mung bean sprouts, thai basil, and sliced jalapenos with the raw slices of beef on top (for you to cook by pouring over the boiling broth). Prices are reasonable for the dry noodles and pho, but not the beef stew. While waiting for our takeout order, the husband owner kindly offered us some water or hot jasmine tea to sip while we waited. Inside of the restaurant, there are 7 tables with seating for 4 each, and a longer table with seating for 8 available for dining here. The parking lot across the street that people used to use seems to be closed/chained as a private lot now, so be prepared to find and park on the main streets or neighborhood around the restaurant. It is in a lesser part of Oakland about 5 minutes away from downtown, so be sure to lock your car or use public transit, as there was a lot of trash dumped around the neighborhood. Despite all of this, I would return for their tasty dry noodles and pho. And would be interested to try their other dishes too (minus the beef stew)."
