"The Saltwater Grill has been a Galveston staple for some time. I was encouraged that the menu has been updated with new items, while preserving some of their best offerings - I swear the Shanghai Delight is laced with Prozac because I'm always happy when I eat it. This time I tried one of their new "naked" offerings, hoping the fish would be allowed to shine. I had the grilled redfish, which was done perfectly - the very thin edges were a little crisp and carmelized but the fish was still moist and flavorful. I did miss the bread - this was one of the few restaurants in town that started with something with substance, so I was quite disappointed when a little crock of crackers appeared instead of bread. The restaurant is very noisy - I was ok hearing my companions but certainly couldn't hear the server well."

"I think this must have been an off night. We've eaten at Spago Maui before and it was incredible and our server was amazing. This time things seemed off. The server was fine but not exceptional which you hope for at this price. The food was also fine but not mind blowing. We were put in a room kind of away from the vibe which feel off and cold. I asked our server to bring us a white that would go with the first courses of our meal under $100 and he brought us one for $130 which I think is a tacky thing to do. And it made us not want to order another one for the rest of the meal. Just a bunch of little things made this not our best night at Spago. But we will be back... as our other times have truly been out of this world."

"waits well 5 minutes for the hostess come and welcome us. she brought us to our table and let us know that it is the best table in the house. I think she was sarcastic when it was the worst table in the restaurant. the table was later as it was right next to the bus stop, as they had to combine other tables for the big party. insulting, it would have been much better if our host was honest with us. eating was late, as we had told them we had a concert to come, so we would be happy if they could just bring all our courses. I was served on the celestial a cocktail with mushroom. total a total and complete disappointment, we grow up to love, go to ruth chris now it has simply become nothing special, since the service has drastically declined."

"This is a tradition meal when we come to Maui. Nick's is great for sunset dining, good service, and great food. We try to get the same table every time and this time was no exception. The hostess accommodated our request. Service was good as the wait staff continually ensured we had filled glasses of water, our server went over the menu options, and checked in at the right moments. We started with the ahi sashimi which was delish as always. I tried the seafood chowder which had a crab cake in the middle and then the chowder was poured around it. My daughter who is not a seafood lover said it tasted great. My wife had the escargot and it was very cheesy but delish according to her. For main dishes, my daughter went with crab cakes. I had the filet mignon which came with mac cheese and asparagus. It was cooked to my liking and tasted great. My wife ended up getting the mongchong special which she enjoyed. We normally go for the strawberry panzini, but given we've cut back on the dietary endulgences for weight and health sake, we passed. No one was ordering it either. It's now $27 and it's meant for 3-4 people even though they say 2. My daughter however, got their coconut dessert as a treat for celebrating straight A's in school. Thank you Nick's!"

"The food was good but the service and ambiance were not. We came here to celebrate our anniversary and the last night of our vacation. Eater recommended Ka’ana as “different” from other hotel restaurants and that it offered a “fine dining”experience. Unfortunately, I would not describe what we experienced as a fine dining experience. Our hostess congratulated us on our anniversary and lead us to our seats. We were seated on the balcony, which would be great except it looked directly at two large TVs playing sports games. Not romantic at all. The TVs were part of the beach bar cabana, which was oddly built directly in front of the dining room, blocking most of the view. Providing diners of Ka’ana a view of whatever is playing on TV instead of an ocean view. It was very distracting. I felt like I was eating dinner being forced to watch football. A poor design decision that led to a poor dining experience. Our waiter was also very distracted. He spoke quickly, disappeared for long stretches, we didn’t feel like we mattered at all. They seemed under staffed. Maybe due to the fire. In any case, I wish they would have limited reservations instead of stretching their staff. The dining room was LOUD. There was live music happening at the beach bar right next to the dining room (classic resort/cruise ship singer, doing their own twists of popular hits. , while the restaurant itself had a different soundtrack (Hawaiian music, more mellow . Two soundtracks competed with each other. Along with the loud dining noise, It was sensory overload. We were barely able to hear each other. Which is why maybe the waiter was barking at us. The food came fast and was good. We had the watermelon salad, waygu, mushroom risotto and veggie tacos. We shared family style. To be honest, we could have just ordered three. We were so stuffed. Wine prices were outrageous so we skipped. We are from the Bay Area so we can wait to drink better wine in Napa. Overall, the price for the food based on inventiveness, quality, and preparation was reasonable. We just can’t recommend it for special occasions. We couldn’t wait to finish our meal and get out of there."
