"Alright, folks, could this be my new favorite ramen spot? I'm seriously considering it. This ramen is reminiscent of what I had in Japan. The 'hakata ramen' especially had the ideal amount of oil in the broth, which is something that many places in San Diego tend to neglect. The noodles had the perfect chew as well. I'm really impressed and will definitely be coming back. By the way, I noticed that on a Tuesday night around 9 PM, the dining room was completely empty! My food arrived within just 5 minutes of ordering, and the staff were very friendly. This place easily gets a 10/10 from me!"

I really enjoy Japanese cuisine, but this restaurant stands out from others I've visited.

Very quaint and authentic. Food and service were very good. Popular small place. Arrive early to avoid waiting.

My favorite sushi/ramen restaurant in all of San Diego. That's a bold statement, I know. Call ahead. Their holiday schedule can be unpredictable. View menu

Everyone knows what they’re doing, food looks, smells, tastes great, extremely helpful and friendly staff, i have a nut allergy and they made sure i would be fine. prices are great too for the portion. if you want japanese food, go here.

Authentic japanese foods in a tokyo-esque setting. We had the gyoza (delicious) and edemame, spicy tuna rolls, a crunch roll (unusual, but very good), and chicken curry katsu (a curry and fried chicken dish, which was also delicious). All around very happy with our experience!

The decor is quite plain, and the service can feel a bit unwelcoming, particularly the woman at the reception. While that might be acceptable, unfortunately, the food also lacks flavor. It has an authentic feel, but it’s not particularly impressive. There are definitely better izakayas to be found in San Diego. View menu

My husband and I love going here! The food and service is always great. The only thing we don't love is how tight it can get with seating sometimes, since they are always so busy. Our average wait time at this restaurant is 45min 1hr. We go during dinner time (anywhere from 6 7:30) and have gone several different days of the week. Definitely worth the wait!

We had an excellent meal here. The Gyoza was great and we all adored our sushi rolls. They were affordable and very well-made. The ramen was delicious. Pretty standard but well-made and would definitely come back for it. The only thing that was a bit off was the timing of the meal. We wanted to enjoy our appetizers and drinks before getting the meal ending ramen. The icing was more like dim sum. The wait it was about a half hour and there are a lot of great places to go have a drink to pass the time. Or you can just wait on the patio.

"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."
