"For our appetizer, we chose the calamari, which was excellent. I noticed in other reviews that they provide a generous portion of marinara sauce, and I can confirm that. I'd much rather have too much than not enough! We typically order a couple of dishes to share, so we picked the redfish and a fried sampler platter. The fried shrimp was the best I've had in a long time, and the catfish was just to my liking. I prefer thinner fillets, as thicker ones can taste too "catfishy" for my palate. My dish came with fries, but I opted to add red beans and rice just to try them, and I was not disappointed. They use more tomato in their recipe than I'm accustomed to, but that gave it a wonderful flavor that I’ll definitely try to replicate at home. The other dish we ordered was the redfish topped with gumbo and crawfish tails, which had the perfect texture and flavor—I could eat it every day! We were too full for dessert, and we didn’t order drinks from the bar, but we appreciated that they serve filtered water. (It's surprising how many restaurants in Abilene skip this simple but significant detail.) Everyone at the restaurant was friendly. Our server was attentive and quick to clear away dirty dishes, which I really appreciated. The other servers in nearby sections were just as attentive and welcoming. When we arrived, there was a wait; they quoted us 20-25 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 10. Perhaps they gave us a longer estimate just in case, or maybe the large group that left in a huff cleared out the waiting area. Regardless, we didn’t mind waiting, especially after enjoying such a fantastic meal. The group that left included a man who was quite large and was yelling at the host while getting physical, which was uncalled for. His wife was egging him on. The manager handled the situation with remarkable politeness, even though the man was behaving like a petulant child. I believe in treating everyone with respect, and it's simply unacceptable for someone to intimidate another person, especially a woman half their size. The staff repeatedly apologized for the disturbance, which was unnecessary; they managed the situation with professionalism even though the rude guest didn’t deserve any courtesy. Thankfully, he eventually left, and everyone in the lobby applauded. We then went on to enjoy a lovely meal."

"Firstly, the bridal suite in the upstairs warehouse area either lacked air conditioning or the system wasn't functioning correctly on our big day, making it uncomfortably warm. Secondly, we had brought our own cigars, and while the coordinator initially informed us that they sell cigars and that smoking was permitted outside, she later changed her tune when she saw us using a butane torch lighter—standard for cigar smokers. She claimed it was a fire hazard and questioned why we couldn't just use matches. Fortunately, one of my groomsmen pointed out that it would take an entire book of matches to light even one cigar. Thirdly, our wedding party was wrongly accused on two occasions of bringing in outside alcohol, which simply wasn't true. My best man had an empty flask that he placed on the table while we were smoking. This raised questions when the coordinator came to confront us about the lighter. Additionally, because we had children in our bridal party, we provided Hawaiian punch upstairs for them, and we were incorrectly accused of drinking that as well. Fourthly, while my maid of honor was in the bridal suite tidying up, the coordinator came up to interrogate her, reminding her that everything needed to be put back as it was found, and proceeded to question her about the Hawaiian punch for the kids. Fifthly, we had chosen a cash bar, and I mistakenly thought this would allow guests to open a tab with a card. As a result, all of our guests ended up using the main bar, which closed down very early because of the confusion. There were several other issues with how customer service was managed, but I don't want to go into all of them. Having worked as head of security for a major bar/event venue in Fort Worth, I’ve never encountered such poor customer service—especially considering we had just paid $2,500 to rent part of the venue. We were respectful and courteous to the staff at The Mill, but we did not receive the same respect in return. Although the venue itself is beautiful, the customer service needs significant improvement. Until these issues are addressed, I would not recommend hosting your wedding here."
