"I love local coffee shops and Mill Mountain always has an interesting and diverse selection of food, coffees, teas, and handmade drinks. I've always had good experiences here except when placing a large order for pick-up.I was a graduate student at Virginia Tech and placed an order for group servings of coffee and cider for the day I was defending my thesis. As most know, this is an incredibly stressful time and I purposefully called 2 weeks in advance to place this order. I called twice to check in because I was anxious for this to be right. The day of picking up my 8:30 AM order, I was told it was not ready and it was marked for 12 PM pick-up even though two people on the phone confirmed the 8:30 AM time.I was lucky my husband was able to stay and get the order while I went on campus to prepare for my defense. The employees were apologetic and quickly worked to get it ready, but none of my atendees were able to get refreshments prior to my defense and my husband arrived 15 minutes after I started my presentation. After talking to other graduate students, this is not a one-time incident. This is a warning to those who may place a large order to allow for extra time as your order may not be ready when you want it."

We always make a stop at this restaurant on our way home from visiting family. It has become a tradition for us now! The coffee is fantastic, the food is delicious, and everything is top-notch.

Mill Mountain has been my go-to coffee place since I started drinking coffee as a teen. My dad would take me here as a toddler and let me play with the coffee stirrers. I love the coffee, love the vibes. View menu

A great little shop across from the Virginia Tech campus. We got large Almond Lattes with oat milk and they were made to perfection. This is a great spot to get work done, meet a friend for coffee, or just get a date with your spouse. Definitely stop by.

The coffee was average, but I had to drink it quickly because it wasn't very hot. I was disappointed to find that there were no vegan food choices available. The atmosphere was odd, feeling more like a small museum dedicated to coffee roasting. The indoor seating area had crates and sacks instead of tables. The service was lacking, with employees too busy chatting to help us find necessary items like lids, sugar, and a trash can. Despite being the only customers, we had trouble getting assistance. When inquiring about vegan options, the only option available was a vegetarian patty, which was not suitable for vegans.

"We 're dumb. McDreamy and I brought his parents to Avellinos at 6pm on the Saturday of VTech graduation weekend. 'Who 'll be eating out?, we asked. Everyone will be at their grad parties, we replied to ourselves. Wrong! Everyone who knew Avellinos knew to make reservations. By some miracle of all miracles, though, the saint of a host, a man with more patience than anyone I 've every witnessed, managed to find us a table after only a thirty minute wait. Yay! Let me begin with the table service. Jeff, who apparently normally works as the bartender, was our waiter. He is witty, personable, attentive, and brought some additional levity and joy to our family dinner. He recommended a Jeff 's Old Fashion for McDreamy that received rave reviews when served. Our other drinks (a bottle of Chianti and a glass of Prosecco) and bread were served quickly. Our orders were taken promptly but without it feeling rushed. Jeff later recommended the in house made tiramisu; it was amazingly light and so delicious, if I may skip ahead. Now for the food. The food! Three of the four of us hail from Italian families. The fourth married into one five decades ago. So she 's an honorary Italian American. We are VERY picky when it comes to our food and we frankly chose Avellinos because we were starving and they served pizza, which is hard albeit not impossible to mess up. The menu arrived and the size and extent of it made me trepidatious. Could anything be good if they serve so much? It was all Italian American style fare, perhaps the answer is yes? Hint: the answer is definitely yes! I chose the sausage and peppers over pappardelle with a Caesar salad. McDreamy ordered his go to chicken parmigiana over spaghetti. The parents each ordered a 12 pizzas. Oh! We also asked to start the meal with a dish of antipasto. Words to describe our meal include delectable, authentic, fresh, perfectly seasoned, just like homemade, tasty, tasty, tasty, and I 'd like more please. Avellinos serves some of the best Italian American food that I 've ever had outside of family events. It 's hands down that simple. I 'm so sad that we didn 't find the restaurant during previous trips to Blacksburg. It would have most certainly been our go to place. Some words of wisdom, if I may make a reservation on busy university weekends. Otherwise, you may not get to experience this terrific restaurant. But absolutely try Avellinos. You won 't be disappointed."
