"Moments later, the manager, Dahlia, approached me. I explained that I was unaware of the policy and wished to keep my water bottle in my pocket, as I felt it unnecessary to dispose of it when I could easily keep it stored. I pointed out that I was not going through an airport security check and did not want to create the impression that exceptions were being made for me in front of other customers. Dahlia insisted that she would have to hold my water at the host stand, or I would need to leave it in my car. I expressed my concerns about sanitation and COVID-19, stating that I did not want anyone handling my bottle. I proposed two scenarios for her consideration: 1) If a parent entered with a bottle of Pedialyte for a young child, would they be asked to throw it away or allowed to keep it? She responded that children would be exempt. I asked if this exemption was documented to prevent arbitrary decisions that could lead to discrimination. Dahlia replied she could probably find that information. 2) I questioned why it would be a problem if I had kept the bottle in my pocket before entering the restaurant, arguing that it would have been a non-issue unless discovered later during my meal. When I pointed this out, she inquired whether I had initially kept it in my pocket. I explained that I hadn’t because I didn’t think it would be an issue but preferred that option over leaving. However, she insisted that keeping it in my pocket was not an option. Feeling frustrated, I informed her that I would never dine at Red Robin again and requested a number to express my dissatisfaction with her customer service. She provided a generic customer service number without offering a name, which I found insufficient. I asked for the general manager's name and number, and she returned with a business card for the kitchen manager. I was incredibly upset! After spending so much money over the last 25 years, Red Robin has always been one of my top three dining spots. Dahlia made a terrible decision by allowing a $1 water bottle to potentially cost the restaurant and its investors thousands in future revenue. A manager’s role is to promote growth and ensure a positive experience for both the customer and the business, and Dahlia failed in this regard. I’m sharing this review because I believe that by ignoring issues, we only empower them, and I hope it helps others avoid a similar experience. By the way, I ended up going to Chick-fil-A and happily spent $17 on my meal there. If I could give Red Robin zero stars, I would."
