"My daughter and I faced an unpleasant situation just walking to the snack area for a bite to eat. We had already visited the snack area a couple of times before without any issues. However, this staff member confronted us and asked if we were guests, implying there were many homeless individuals around. Honestly, I couldn't believe it! We had just spent $250 for one night and another $200 at the bar, with valet parking costing $44. We clearly did not fit the stereotype she was suggesting! The staff member was incredibly rude, refusing to engage with me. My daughter even spoke up, saying, "I'm her daughter, talk to my mom. You're being disrespectful." Despite her protests, the staff member continued to ignore us. I have never experienced such treatment in my life; I was beyond shocked and extremely upset. It's baffling, especially since we had just spent the previous two hours at the restaurant bar, and many guests were enjoying themselves at the rooftop bar. Why single out a mother and daughter who were simply getting another snack from the area recommended by the bartender?"

That's a great bar! We went there in November 2020 to celebrate my birthday and appreciated the open-air atmosphere for socializing.

I passed by several quiet restaurants in downtown that were filled with straws and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. At this hotel, the elevator and...

This is a nice hotel. Being a historical building, it does lack some of the amenities that we have all grown accustomed to. We were a large group with multiple families gathering for a wedding. Had a rocky start but thanks to Chantelle and Terri for their amazing support we ended up having a fantastic time! View menu

We always pick this hotel when we stay in Birmingham, but this trip was not the best. I just wanted to say the waitress, Jackie, at the Harvest breakfast was extremely rude to everyone in the restaurant. At one point she was obviously being aggressive with one man and it made everyone in the restaurant extremely uncomfortable. Breakfast food has also been better in past trips.

The room and bathroom were clean and spacious, with comfortable beds and a well-functioning air conditioning unit. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Valet service is available for $35 per night, but we opted to park across the street for just $20 for 24 hours. Please note that breakfast is not included unless you are a member. Overall, I would rate the rooms 5 out of 5.

Byron Austin went down a drain to retrieve my wife's phone in the valet parking area in front of the hotel. Nelson Jordan and another person who assisted Byron were fantastic as well. The level of help we received was outstanding and exceptionally courteous. My wife, the other couple, and I were truly amazed by the lengths everyone went to in order to help us. This was truly above and beyond the call of duty. View menu

We stayed in the presidential suite, which may have been nice at one time, but the sofas felt like they were straight out of the 1980s. There was a leak from the air conditioning unit that made the carpet damp, causing a musty smell in the room. On a positive note, the restaurant was quite good. I'd definitely consider staying here again, but the accommodations didn't quite meet the higher standards I usually expect from Marriott's upscale brands.

I arrived at 1 AM and was given a room that was already occupied by another guest. I tried using the room key, but it didn't work, so I went back to the front desk to report the issue. They issued me a new key, but that one didn't work either. To my surprise, the guest in the room opened the door and asked, "How can I help you?" She thought we were trying to break into her room. After an hour of confusion, I was finally assigned a room that was worn out and in poor condition. I couldn't sleep well because I was afraid someone might just walk in since the front desk staff was so incompetent. Save yourself the trouble and choose another place to stay. This hotel was terrible!!!

"If there is a restaurant that is a Birmingham institution among the wealthier crowd, there is literally only one name that locals would bring up, and it is undoubtedly Highlands. Not that there aren't other nice restaurants, but this spot has proven itself over time and is ran by a chef that most Alabamians are quite proud of. Opened in 1982, Highland's is a place that put Birmingham on the map in a positive way at a time when the post industrial iron period was about to wind down and transform the city. Frank formalized his cooking techniques by working in kitchens of San Francisco and France, creating a medley of American Southern and French cuisine that is difficult to find elsewhere. It was not a time when it was common to see a chef from Alabama going to study cooking in Europe, thus the story was already an anomaly. Frank Stitt was trying to pioneer sustainable agriculture and farming well before anybody in Alabama knew what in the world that actually meant or for that matter, cared. One of the signature items is the baked grits that has been around since the restaurant opened. It's a tasty grits preparation and without a doubt, something to try. The pheasant was spectacular, fairly lean and with a crispy delicious skin, served with grits and green beans. Pastries here are created by Dolester Miles, who has been in the job for well over 30 years. The opera cake is absolutely spectacular, gentle and complexly layered. The basque cake is peachy and moist, with a crispy delicious exterior and Chantilly cream. Not only are these likely the best desserts to discover in Alabama, but may be some of the best to be found in America. The attentiveness got derail was clearly evident. As far as service, generally fine, but not particularly attentive. The waitress did not seem in much of a mood to welcome people to the establishment. Many items on the menu were running out by 8:30pm on a Saturday night. Nobody was particularly impressed with the flounder that got substituted for the grouper. And then there are other questions, why would you run out of grits? They know they are always filled to capacity and ingredients to make grits are not immediately perishable. Highland's has by this point in Birmingham's history become a classic. It's evident that most people here have been around for decades working at their jobs and serving the rich crowds of Mountain Brook. It's a place of great food and shows many combinations of ingredients that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere, let alone be executed this well."
