"I visited Calico County with my husband and his parents last month! I’ve been to the restaurant several times, and this is my first review. Calico County is a staple of home cooking in the River Valley! It’s one of the places I take my family and friends when they visit from out of state! My husband really likes their hand-breaded, chicken tenders. I like to order the vegetable plate!! I ordered mashed potatoes with brown gravy, fried okra, black eyed peas, and turnip greens. Everything was so good! The special thing about Calico County is that they bring out cinnamon rolls before your meal!! Our server was very kind and attentive. The atmosphere is welcoming and homey. You can tell that they have taken a lot of intentionality in piecing together the decor in the restaurant. It feels very nostalgic! Thank you to the Calico County team for providing an overall positive experience!"

"Had a wonderful experience here today, I dined in and ordered the yellow curry chicken at a Lvl 3 spiciness with brown rice, which I found to be just right! It was very flavorful, creamy, and filling. My only complaint would be that the potatoes were a tad underdone, but other than that, Great! Would've liked for the prices to be included in the menu for each item, but that did not take away much from this experience. I liked the fact that the server (who seemed like the owner as well, but not sure) brought out a small bowl of salad with what tasted like a homemade dressing soon after I was seated. Will definitely be coming back to try the other options this place has to offer!"

"Amazing, fresh and tasty oysters, seafood lasagna was superb and the shrimp and grits were excellent! 2 outdoor dining spaces and extra parking across the street. "Been here on multiple occasions. Can say that it has significantly declined in quality and service. I liked the atmosphere here previously because it was nice and moody. Now, the music is too loud. This place is on the pricier side but usually I thought it was okay because you pay for the service and atmosphere. It took 40 minutes for us to be served food. I asked for a straw since I sat down and it was repeatedly forgotten. Then, once we were served our food, we were rarely checked on. The food itself is also very disappointing. They have a rotating menu but it’s been the same since April. This is not what I was expecting. My bigger issue is that the food we actually received was horrible. I ordered an entree Caesar salad with chicken (and I verified that this was a size that was possible). It was smaller than the side salad noted in the photos, underdressed and the chicken was very difficult to eat due to the dryness. The bread was very “wet” and dense. The salmon was undercooked but we couldn’t send it back and had to ask a different server because our server didn’t check on us. Overall, highly disappointed and the price was certainly not worth the experience. Will not be returning and I would suggest you try another restaurant as well."

"A small mom pop, downhome cooking place, the kind where the waitress calls you Honey and Sugar. They have printed menus, but it is also written on chalkboards on the wall. I had the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables and baked beans. My buddy had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, fried okra and pinto beans. All of it tasted good and for the price, there was a good amount of food. We both ordered a slice of pie to go chocolate meringue for me and I think he got chocolate cream. We agreed the pie was very good. Will definitely go back the next time I 'm in the area as there are several different dishes I want to try, plus I saw a really yummy looking strawberry pie I want next time!"
