"When you have a hankering for some down-home Southern country-style cooking, then only Soul Food will do. It's a comforting kind of food your mama used to make… or wish she would! Arising from a shared Southern experience, "Soul Food" uses ingredients and recipes common to almost every Southerner, which are especially familiar to those from rural areas where raising a vegetable garden and a few chickens, and even a small hog or two is not uncommon. Skin color makes no difference in Soul Food, because tomatoes don't care who grows them, or eats them. Neither do cabbage, corn, okra, beans, or collard greens care who cooks them. And everybody - regardless of skin color - uses everything but the squeal from the pig. It's sharing a way of life. It's family. It's knowing that you and your neighbors are connected because both your groceries come from the same soil, and were prepared with the same love and sweat of your brow. It's about love of family, and sharing your table. It's about opening your heart, your hands, and your mouth for another serving of candied yams, banana pudding, macaroni and cheese, or pork spare ribs. Now, if any of that sounds familiar, or if sweet iced tea and lemonade have any appeal to you whatsoever, you'll definitely want to take your next lunch at Silver Sands! "

Used to be good long ago.. This used to be a good restaurant a long while ago, with very good food. Now it is so-so at best The service has always been bad so don't expect anything over-the-top It's located in the hood' so bring your pistol and plenty of ammo. View menu

Sorry to have to say this, but the place is disgusting. Huge amounts slopped on plates does not make good soul food. Could not cut liver, too much salt, no drinks except a couple of bottles of OJ an water. No salt and pepper on tables. Nice people but I just could never stomach this again. Go to Sylvan Park instead or Puckett's downtown.

I may move closer!!. I am from West TN, but in town for a training and was led here by a Nashville veteran for breakfast today. Wow I wish my mouth was bigger! Pork w/gravy, potatoes, apples, and biscuits I looked up and it was all gone and all for a low price. I will be back here for breakfast and lunch for more of what I think may be Tennessee's best soul food spot.

What Memories. I had never eaten soul food in my life.Being a white city boy who moved from Indiana to Nashville in the 70's. I went to work for Metro Parks and Recreation in 1982. My supervisor George Watson introduced me to this place when I was about 22.The lady that owned the place was known as Sis They had just moved into the New Building that you see in the ad. I Miss Sis' Hotwater Cornbread.I moved in away 1995 and am glad to have found this site. What memories and the food was terrific.Around the 1st of the month when the Goverment Cheese was distributed to the public her Baked Mac Cheese With Smothered Porkchops and Green Beans w/lots of Fat Meat and Hotwater corn bread...read more View menu
