"Every item I 've ordered has been delicious. The biggest treat for me is their cheese grits. I order them anywhere that has them and these are the best. When I can splurge, I go for their fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. The skin is crispy while the meat is hot and juicy. The biscuits are a bit dough like but not at all a negative it 's akin to the doughiness of eating the top of a pot pie. And the duck sausage gravy is drool worthy. Their specials are also good, too. I recently had the brown butter tart and it 's so good by having a natural sweetness without being cloying. The ambiance is basic clean and minimalist. The sound level can go up because there is no padding and it 's just a wood banquette, tables and chairs but it 's fine. My only complaint is that I 've found the coffee and teas to be lacking. Just not enough flavor in the coffee and the teas have an odd flavoring for being a basic black China tea or the chai. It 's really a gem in Mar Vista."

For a new place the food was great and very inventive and on Sunday you can shop the Farmers Market!

We had a lovely dinner at Status Kuo last week. Delicious food, fresh ingredients, and a team who clearly cares about quality and customers. We'll go back. View menu

Reservations irrelevant here. Food takes forever to get once ordered. Staff pleasant but inattentive. The only saving grace is that the food truly is delicious.

The food was delicious. However, almost half the entrees were unavailable. They didn't have the tri-tip, or the fish, or the pork. That left the chicken and the steak--the most expensive item on the menu. The rotisserie chicken was great and so were the fries. But something is wrong if the kitchen is out of half the entrees at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Status Kuo is a neighborhood gem for sure. Its food was great. Though the emphasis is on meat, I had the entrée that consisted of three veggies chosen off a long list. The portions were large and the veggies were delicious. The only drawback is that Status Kuo doesn't have a liquor license. It is expanding, and after that patrons will be able to bring their own wine or beer. Meanwhile, order take out or have a dinner without alcohol then go next door or around the corner to Grand Market (another gem) for an after-dinner drink. View menu

I chose another restaurant, but it was closed, so we settled on Status Kuo. The reviews were certainly mixed, so I was a bit nervous. The wings were very tasty. Crispy and well cooked. The Sunday Gravy, albeit poorly named, was yummy. The dumplings were a bit bland, but the sauce made up for it. The Brussels sprouts (Porchetta) were as expected, the Mac and cheese was pretty good and the fries were yummy. The chocolate cake was more like a blueberry tartlet in a chocolate tart shell. That being said, it was lovely and delicious.

Brunch was going on Saturday around noon. I had the pork sandwich with fried egg and ordered sides of cheese grits and bacon. My son had the pancake. The bacon was made in house and was thick juicy with great salt meat balance. I couldn't stop having a small piece of bacon with a bite of cheese grits. The two combined were amazing creamy, cheesy, cured meat and savory salt. The pork was in small bite sized cubes and had an Asian theme. When mixed with egg and avocado the pork really came alive. There were layers of flavors accompanied by the richness of the yolk and avocado. The pancake was huge and looked like it was cooked on a Bundt cake pan. I only got a couple of bites as my son devoure...

"We visited the Los Alamitos location this trip for late lunch, early dinner. My husband got an All American Beach Melt. It was a full pound cheeseburger on grilled Parmesan Sour Dough. He was delightfully overwhelmed! I decided to try the prime rib dinner because the prime rib dip is out of this world! I was extremely disappointed! The meat was cold and flavorless. The aujus again had no flavor. The creamy horseradish could have been sour cream, and it has absolutely no flavor at all, no zing. Our waitress was sweet but disappointing. All of our food came to the table at the same time. Our appetizer actually arrived after our entree plates. Our waitress did a vanishing act. She did not once return to the table. Our water and tea cups sat empty throughout our meal. Other servers took care of the tables to our right, and to our left, we remained completely ignored. After finishing our meals, we sat for about 15 20 minutes with my husband, trying to get anyone to pay attention to even our empty glasses. Finally, it appeared to be someone in management who asked if we were waiting for boxes. My husband told her we 'd like a check AND boxes so we can leave. She brought our check and 3 boxes, no questions or comments. My husband paid in cash, and she said, I 'll see you next time. He commented. There won 't be a next time. We enjoy the Foothill Ranch location, a much friendlier environment. Today 's lesson learned is that it was not a good idea to order steak at a sandwich shop."

"Our first visit to the restaurant last night came highly recommended, thanks to a friend's glowing review of their vegan menu. We were pretty excited and ordered two vegan meatball subs. The trouble began when we waited for nearly 25 minutes after placing our order. Our server, a guy named Ryan (I think), came over and told us they were all out of vegan meatballs. Naturally, we asked why it took so long for them to figure this out, which seemed to fluster poor Ryan a bit. However, he was polite throughout the conversation. We decided to switch our order to one regular meatball sub and a vegan eggplant sub, thinking all was well. But, surprise, surprise, Ryan returned a few minutes later to tell us they were also out of eggplant. At this point, we had been waiting for almost 40 minutes with no food in sight, so we asked for the check to pay for the soda my husband had been nursing. Here's why the whole experience left a sour taste in our mouths: 1. Why in the world didn't the waitstaff know about these shortages in advance? It seems like basic communication within the restaurant was seriously lacking. Customers shouldn't be left hanging, wondering if they'll actually get what they ordered. 2. It's kind of baffling that Ryan was left to break the bad news not just once, but twice. You'd think the manager, who we saw chatting with other diners just a few feet away, would have taken the initiative to come over and speak to us directly. 3. I was made to feel like I should be really grateful they decided not to charge us for the Diet Coke my husband drank. Overall it was a terrible experience and no effort was made to rectify what happened. I obviously cannot comment on the food since we never recieved any. As for customer service...HORRIBLE!"
