"the tavern has opened again and it is better than ever! we were random in state college at one of their openings nights and so we thought that we would give the “new” tavern a try. I don't usually write reviews, but the tavern deserves to recognize it. it has a fresh new look that still maintains the traditions and nostalgia of pastness. the updated menu of tavern has something for everyone...with options, from salads to seafood to pasta and bark meat that is produced locally. There are also new page options that you can select on the menu. all in my group of six said that their appetizers, escape and sides were cooked to perfection and delicious! the desserts are also amazing! the service at the bar and our table was excellent. my opinion after the tavern has now the best food and service in state college. Moreover, it is worth seeing only all the amazing PSU photos and memories and having a drink at one of their new bars, including an outside in the upper floor! there are fun new cocktails on the drink card and some old favorites like the original sense. the tavern and Adams apple have always been special places, but they are really incredible now! it is a must to go when in state college for a visit."

The food is excellent, although it is more expensive than other choices in downtown. The truffle pea ravioli is fantastic! It's a nice spot for a party of two. The service is also very good. I had a...

It's one of the few fine dining options in State College. Four of us ordered steaks, and they were cooked to perfection. I had the filet mignon, which was excellent. The atmosphere is lovely, especially since the restaurant underwent a complete renovation last year.

everything we had was extraordinary. instead of the appetizer list, we wanted to start a page of the Brussel shoots that make it a big opener. the mahi thunfisch, boiled to taste spinat salat. a well decorated bathroom makes me always funny and I liked the art in this View menu

the best I had for a long time. it is a very to the earthy atmosphere with friendly personal and amazing eating. I got the tavern wagyu burger and my wife got the shaved prime rib sandwich. both where cooked to absolute perfection. we both have a bowl of beef and gerst soup that was for to die! we will probably be more back.

This is a must stop in Happy Valley . Even a typical meal has an amazing taste and twist to it. Yum yum. If you're more adventurous enjoy the more unique side of the menu, I recommend it. . Philly egg rolls is a must. The veal is heaven and any red meat sauce pasta is great. There are a few sides the the restaurant too (bar, balcony, couches , patio etc. I'll be back.

"Gigi's substantially changed their menu ahead of Father's Day so that it differed from the online version not only were the options quite different, but the menu was substantially shorter one page, very few options . Furthermore there were no vegetarian options besides salads, only one fish option the shrimp dish had sausage in it , and nearly all dishes had a substantial element of spiciness to them while I love spice, one member of our party is very sensitive and had difficulty figuring out an option . What made our experience particularly difficult was Gigi's refusal to allow minor substitutions i.e. condiments, spice level and refusal to add a protein to a salad that the restaurant had in stock which we would have been more than happy to pay for , which was explicitly an option on the old menu. While I understand why a chef would not want to back up their kitchen for customer substitution requests, this policy should have been relaxed considering the extremely short menu that had been changed at the last minute in fact, the online version of the menu still had not been changed by the time we sat at our table. But the most frustrating portion of our evening was when the manager came over to ask how we were doing. One member of our party brought up politely the last minute menu change and lack of options for diners, to which the manager perplexingly retorted that Gigi's didn't want to allow additions/substitutions because it might create an influx of customers to the establishment ??? , and that proteins were still allowed to be added to dishes for breakfast options but not dinner again, ??? . I should note that my dishes crab soup, salmon were delicious, and the service by our waitress was lovely. However this did not extend to the all of the dishes that my companions ate an over cooked burger, bland grits, etc. , and their negative experience regrettably ruined what should have been a relaxing Father's Day dinner."
