"We thoroughly enjoyed our teishoku (dinner meals C and B). The quality of the tuna sashimi was outstanding. However, the sukiyaki didn't quite meet our expectations—it was decent, but felt more like a side dish than a true sukiyaki. The sunomono and tsukemono were basic, and the miso soup was also standard. On a positive note, the tempura was perfectly fried and well-seasoned. The service was efficient and very welcoming. We loved the atmosphere and interior design of this vintage Japanese shokudo; it felt genuinely authentic. The prices are slightly on the higher side, considering these limitations (it would rate 5 stars if prices were reduced by 10-20% or if the quality improved a bit). That said, we had a fantastic meal and enjoyed plenty of vegetables. No reservations are needed, and there's free parking in front of the restaurant."

Quite delicious and authentic Japanese food! The tempera is indeed amazing! I just wish the beef in sukiyaki is sliced not strips?

We came here on the way back from two step. The food was great! Tempura is special, and larger than normal tempura in other restaurant. Service is great!

Excellent restaurant, wonderful service and tasty food. 100% recommend. Dinner combos are a great value for the quality/quantity. If you understand Japanese culture and food you will not be disappointed dining here. Thanks for a great meal! View menu

Old School Cool Japanese diner, get an excellent and fresh set meal near some of the best snorkeling on the island. We all went with different sets and had a great time. The quality is essentially no different than you would get from a spot in Japan.

More home-style cooking than fine dining. All the dishes we ordered in the photo aren?t bad, but nothing to write home about. I would suggest staying away from the Saimen, though. It?s more like what I?d do at home dumping whatever is in the fridge into the bowl.

This is the best dining I've had on Big Island. Our food was fresh and hot and really, really delicious. The service was excellent. The table and dining room was really clean. Relaxing background music that wasn't too loud. Big portions and reasonably priced. Don't be discouraged if you come during a busy time and have to wait for a table, its well worth the wait. One of the ?must eats? whenever you are in the Kona area of the Big Island. No visit to Kona is complete unless you have lunch or dinner at Teshima?s. Mention to anyone living in the state of Hawaii, Teshima?s ?..us locals know. Old school friendlinessand hospitality. First time eating Japanese food? The staff will take care of you. Can?t get better than that. Plenty of parkingin front and next to the gas station.

This is NOT an authentic Japanese restaurant. Although the indoor decor might look authentic, the rest is not. We ordered the fried tofu and two tenshoku sets. Here are some of the not so authentic things: The sets have sashimi but no soy sauce untilwe asked BBQ beef was cold The side dishes are not really Japanese side dishes Miso soup is bland, with no seaweed ortofu Fried fish tasted poorly Rice is undercooked Napkins are used instead of special oil absorbing sheets On top of thefood disaster, they also have a chain at the entrance and exit. You have to wait until the waitress/waiter to let you in, whichfeels a bit unwelcoming.
