"Governor's Restaurant Bakery Bangor: A Disgraceful Experience Marred by Racism I recently visited the Governor's Restaurant Bakery in Bangor, ME, with my 83 year old father and a friend. We were excited to try this local establishment, but our experience was marred by blatant racism. From the moment we entered, we were treated differently than other patrons. The waitress, Becky, was rude and dismissive, refusing to take our order while readily attending to other customers. It was clear that our skin color was the issue, as we were the only non white people in the restaurant. When we brought this to the manager's attention, they offered no explanation or apology for Becky's behavior. Instead, they simply took our order themselves, further highlighting the discriminatory treatment we received. This incident left a sour taste in our mouths and ruined what should have been a pleasant meal. My father, who is elderly and deserves respect, was deeply affected by this experience. I cannot in good conscience recommend Governor's Restaurant Bakery in Bangor to anyone. Their staff's blatant racism and the management's lack of response demonstrate a complete disregard for basic human decency and respect. Response to Owner's comment: Mr. Clay I want to thank you for offering to get in touch with me via email. I truly appreciate your efforts to address the concerns I raised. While I understand your point, about the company's stance against discrimination I need to stress that my visit to your Bangor branch was marred by acts of discrimination. Both my father and I were treated differently because of our race. We were ignored by the waitress, Becky, who served customers without hesitation. This kind of treatment made us feel embarrassed and deeply hurt. I see that you are willing to look into this matter which's a step forward. However I urge you to investigate the conduct of your staff and the overall atmosphere at the Bangor establishment. Its disheartening to hear that you claim no knowledge of incidents since it directly contradicts not my experience but also those shared by other people of color online. I am open, to removing my review after 24 hours if you take this issue seriously and conduct an investigation."

"From Grub Hug on line menu Classic Cubano Sandwich, $9.50 Roasted pork, smoked ham, pickles, Dijon mustard and Swiss cheese on a grilled roll. Served with choice of 1 side dish. I added the above to show how much things have changed. But this add was pulled from Grub Hub today 7/4/2023. First time here in Years! I was early for a performance the Marsh and had time to kill and was hungry. When I arrived 3:15 if took me a minute to get anyone 's attention. No one was in the restaurant and 5 staff were all sitting in a booth and the music was really loud. I finally got my server Carlo 's attention. At first, it appeared he couldn 't be bothered. Thankfully he warmed off after a bit. I had the Cubano sandwich $18.00 (far cry from the Grub Hub price) and sadly not really worth it. Pretty tasteless. Bread not toasted, it was on a sliced french roll, ham was sandwich meat , 1 slice of Swiss cheese and not fresh pickles. Said it came with french fries, well they were breakfast potatoes. Plentiful in size, though. I also ordered a coke which the Menu said was a Mexican Coke. I won 't be suckered into that again ! Scuse me $5.00 and the photo will show it wasn 't a Mexican coke but a regular Cocoa Cola from Cocoa Cola in a glass bottle. Had the manager been there I would have requested a refund for false advertising. What I thought would be a cheap lunch was $25. Maybe the manager will reach out to rectify the overcharge for the Non Mexican coke. Pretty pathetic to make a buck....."

"A quaint diner, but incredibly slow. We sat ourselves to an available booth. It was not busy with a few (about 8-10) people, the two waitresses were standing behind the counter doing nothing but chatting with each other and it took about 5 minutes for the teenage waitress to give a menus and ask if we wanted coffee. I got coffee and my partner got hot tea. We gave our order (I got eggs, sausage and pancakes and my partner got corned beef hash omelette). It took a while for the waitress to write down the order as she did so in longhand. Obviously not taught how to write quickly or use shorthand or abbreviations. While waiting I asked for a coffee refill. The waitress went on to do other things and forgot. I had to ask again. While we waited we couldn’t help but notice the two teenaged waitresses basically stood around and did nothing. When they did anything there was as no sense of urgency or hustle at all. About 30 to 45 minutes after we place our order my pancakes arrived. A couple minutes later my partner’s omelette arrived. Then, a few minutes after that my eggs/sausage arrived. My partner’s tea had gotten cold. My eggs, sausage and pancakes were okay. But, my partner’s omelette was bland and no taste in the corned beef hash. The coffee was okay. There was about a 20% upcharge due to Covid (which was posted on a handwritten notice on the wall). So, $40 and 90 minutes later we left. Not horrible, but not good either. You could tell the wait staff wanted to be anywhere but there and the kitchen placed a higher priority to DoorDash and To Go orders than those inside the diner. It was our first time there and we doubt we will return."
