"I had all but given up on the idea of finding respectable Indian food outside of South Asia. On a whim, my wife suggested trying Nanking, as it was on our way home. As per the norm, her ideas lead to great discoveries. Upon opening the menu, I was very happy to see that they had Goan food on the menu. Most Indian restaurants keep their cuisine north of Mumbai, sticking with Nepalese and North Indian dishes, so to find some South Indian food is delightful. I ordered the Goan Vegetarian Curry (Indian Hot Spicy) with a side order of butter naan bread. The spice level was just right for my taste, the sauce was rich and flavorful, and the vegetables were cooked with still a good bit of crispness. Even though it came with a side of plain rice, I opted to eat it with my naan bread. My wife and mother-in-law both ordered from the Thai portion of the menu, having Shrimp Fried Rice and Chicken Pad Thai. I didn't try any of the fried rice, but the Pad Thai was so flavorful. You could taste the richness of peanuts and tamarind sauce in each bite. My daughter had the Chicken Lollipops (from the kids' menu). When we ordered these, I was expecting maybe a piece of chicken on a skewer. Instead, this dish was three chicken wing drumettes in a delicious Indian red sauce, garnished with minced green onions (I had to remove those... no convincing a three-year-old that onions are okay). She shared them with me and they are really well made. They didn't taste like something from the kids menu, but rather like good food that a kid works enjoy... and did she ever enjoy it! My litmus of all Indian restaurants is the Mango Lassi. If this isn't done right, I cannot call it a truly great restaurant. Well, I am here to say that their mango lassi had the rich consistency of kefir, tastes of fresh, tart mangos with a bit of sugar, and is spiced with a background of cardamom. Nanking is a place that appreciates outstanding food. Now that I have raved about the food, let's move on to the service. Yogi (the owner) took care of us tonight. You can tell that he loves this place and appreciates it when people love his food. From the moment we came in, we felt like their personal guests. As for the recorded music, well, I would have liked something a little more classic Bollywood musical film score, but that is a matter of personal taste. Indian melodies on piano are nice, and that is what they had. We will definitely be back to Nanking."
