Max's Opera Cafe - Carta

A good old standby oversized portions of okay food with kind service. Quite convenient post performance, especially with kids in tow.

Always delicious and one of very limited places in SF that has a decent Fettuccine Alfredo... and it's amazing with steak and shrimp added.

If you want your server to sing an aria, this is the place. Food is plentiful and comfortable. Desserts are to be shared. Interior is ok but dated. Ver carta

I went there many years ago and it was fun atmosphere and good food... and it's still close by the performing arts area... but it's not the same at all.

3 for food. 2 for service unless it’s Christy or Carlos and then it’s a 10. Consistently disappointed in the direction Max’s is going. I wish an owner who cared would step in and right this sinking ship.

Our experience for breakfast/lunch was very positive from start to finish. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and seated promptly. Our server was courteous and attentive. Our coffee was fresh, tasty and hot. The vegetable omelette was full of fresh delicious veggies, the country potatoes well seasoned, and toast had a good substantial consistency. I came here with a couple of friends for a pre-Philharmonic bite and drinks. The draft beers were reasonably priced and quite good. The Grey Goose martini was definitely watered down! The California Chicken Melt and Lamb Burger were decent. The Roast Beef Au Jus (in quotes because it tasted nothing like proper au jus) was awful. There was plenty of it, but plenty of tasteless leather, is still tasteless leather. And the restaurant was not at all crowded, but it was a challenge getting our waiter 's attention the entire time. I had been here pre-pandemic and remember it being much better than it was this time around.

A charming and casual dining spot. I recently came here for lunch and noticed right away a certain nostalgic vibe about this place. The decor has a throwback feel about it but in a good way. There are a ton of windows that let in great natural light and makes the place feel much larger. The full bar looked like it offered a robust selection of drinks. The service was friendly, prompt and efficient. I had the salmon sandwich with fries. And it was really good. The piece of salmon was a good portion. The bread was excellent! First time visiting Max 's At The Opera and it was an underwhelming experience to say the least. We were attracted to the restaurant because of the large menu, outdoor seating deck, and live piano player. Despite standing in one of the two doorways, where a bulk of the customers and the bar is located, no one attempted to help us. After waiting for 4 minutes, being seen by staff, I had to approach the bar and ask the bartender, who can help? Should we seat ourselves? to which she replied yes, you can sit there (indicating the other side). The customer service was absolutely SUBPAR. To be honest, it was embarrassing!
