"I love the atmosphere here; it was perfect for getting out of the house to write. The decor is very cozy and the music they had playing on the radio was relaxing and conducive to focusing. The staff were friendly and patient with me asking questions and taking forever to figure out my order. I ended up deciding on a chai latte and it was excellent. I definitely recommend and plan on going back (and deciding what I want before I get there this time"

"Today was my first visit. I ordered beef and cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. I was shocked at how good it was! The flavor of each individual item was way better than other Mexican restaurants in the area. It tasted like fresh, homemade ingredient with love. My only disappointment was the chips are fried in the same fryer as flour tortillas and I have celiac disease; however, my server knew what to sub in my meal to make it work. Perfect hole in the wall spot and I will be back. Service was great as well."

"The hostess and two waitresses were busy clearing tables in a restaurant that probably had around 20 tables. I understand that many places are short-staffed these days, but this situation was unacceptable. Why change our reservation to an earlier time if they weren't prepared for us? We ordered cocktails and they didn’t arrive until 8:28. My drink was decent, though somewhat small, while my wife's pear pollywog cocktail was completely oversalted and unpalatable. My wife is diabetic and had taken her insulin beforehand, but after waiting so long for a drink, I let the waitress know about our frustration. She assured me that part of our order would be prioritized. When the waitress passed by again, I inquired if there were any bread or crackers available for my wife to eat. She bluntly said no. The first two dishes finally arrived around 8:45. We had ordered devils on horseback, pork belly, onion soup, and sweet potato fritters. The stuffed figs were disappointing, lacking blue cheese flavor, and the bacon was overcooked with an unpleasant texture. While the pork belly was decent, it was far from the life-changing experience the waitress had claimed and was only about three ounces at best. The onion soup had good broth, but the bread (which I was told they didn’t have) was rock-hard and burnt. It was so tough that when I tossed it on the table, it bounced. The sweet potato fritters were overcooked and resembled deep-fried strings, making them completely inedible, even though I was very hungry. I’m relieved we didn’t bring our kids; it would have been a nightmare. Our children have dined with us in various restaurants across the country, and we’ve always had better experiences. I’ve left reviews for other places we recently visited just to ease into writing this one. I might have been extra disappointed due to my high expectations, but I was genuinely excited to find a restaurant with a promising menu close to home. Unfortunately, the service, food, and overall management were lacking."

"Amazing food that covers other sins. First, I want to say that everyone leaves laughing and happy. It is one of the first things that I noticed when I arrived. We sat near the door, and it was a joy to watch. It's a small place and tables are a bit too close. The back room is an unreasonable cluster where people are right on top of each other. It seemed stuffy when we arrived and that turned into a glistening sweat as we ate. . The server was delightful. She knew the menu and described things well. We really enjoyed her. We ordered cocktails. Her wine was delicious. My old fashioned was perfect. The starter salad was great for my wife. Even my little plate of greens and berries were unexpectedly good. The wait for our meal was unpleasant. We were hot and sweaty. The restaurant was annoyingly loud. We mentioned the heat to the waitress who was sweet and agreed but could not solve the problem. I had scallops with veggies which were amazing. I loved every bite. The scallops had that perfect crispy outside and tender flavorful center. My wife had the beef rib over pasta. She raved about her meal. I snuck a bite and it was flavorful and tender. She carried on about how delicious the pasta was and how incredible the mushrooms were. The meal was truly exceptional. There was a fly that would not leave our table. At the end of our meal, it found a mate and made love on the window sill as we waited for the check. Even they left happy."

"This place is just wonderful. We have tried so many different spots in Maggie Valley and Waynesville over the past year and this one is definitely our favorite. The service is the best in the area and our server was great! I would recommend a reservation, which you will need to call directly to book. The Caesar side salad was awesome, as well as, the open face pot roast sandwich. The kids menu has three options. My daughter enjoyed her chicken tenders and sweet potato fries. We will definitely return!"

"Situated on Main Street in the city, this restaurant is a fantastic find with convenient public parking nearby. It offers plenty of indoor seating options, including tables and stands as well as a cozy taproom bar with a wide variety of craft cocktails. The bartenders and servers were friendly and attentive, always ensuring that customers had everything they needed. The food was delicious, particularly the burger melt which I thoroughly enjoyed. I always enjoy visiting this place and they seem to be improving with time. Some standout brews include the Stratosphere Double NE IPA, Passionfruit Guava Gose, and old favorites like their Reward Pale Ale. Cheers!"

"We had a good time. The bartender, Ethan, was really helpful with his suggestions. We started with the goat cheese fritters. There were 3 to the order which seemed a little small. The seasonal pepper jelly that came with it was on the sweet side and a nice complement to the tanginess of the goat cheese. G had the fried chicken sandwich and he really liked it. It came with hand-cut fries which had this seasoning on it that contained nutmeg. It was definitely unexpected but a little too nutmeg-forward. I would ask for it without the seasoning. I had the chicken pot pie and it was to die for! It was the epitome of comfort food. I wanted to go swimming in the pot pie gravy. It came with a side salad of butter lettuce and honey walnut vinaigrette. To me, the dressing had too much red wine vinegar. I had read about their 3 shareable items, which were: Dad’s Tomato Pie, Macaroni and Cheese, and the Collard Green Casserole. We ordered those to-go and brought them home. All had a faintly sweet note to them because of the biscuit crumble on top. The mac and cheese is a stick-to-your-ribs dish that could be a meal in itself and had a nice smoky flavor. The collards were incredible and the tomato pie was very good. If you’re in the Waynesville area, I would highly recommend Birchwood Hall!"

"We came here twice. The first time we had a great experience. Ordered the shrimp tacos and smash burger. Both delicious. Dogs are welcome and it was lovely to enjoy our meal by the creek. The second time was on July 4th and despite calling to verify that they were open, they failed to mention that the kitchen was closing early. Up arriving, we missed the kitchen by 10 minutes and ended up leaving hungry, which was a major disappointment. The band playing was great but left with a bad taste in our mouth since it’s the only place in town to have a really good meal with a great outdoor atmosphere and welcome dogs."

"Tried Maggie's for the first time last night after hearing about it for a while now. Made the hour and half trip over from TN for a date night with the wife. Arrived there about 6pm on a Saturday. Was told about 45 min wait. But saw a couple empty seats at the bar so we sat there. Had the calamari for an app, it was great. I had the Colorado Lobster, a jucy filet with Lobster meat on top, and my wife had the king crab since they were out of snow crab. The service was perfect and the food came out very quickly, especially with the packed restaurant. Our food was all great, and we even had some delicious key lime pie for dessert. Will definitely make the trip back over to dine here again."

"My husband and I used to dine at Watami regularly, but after the treatment we received today, we will never go back. We arrived at 11 am for an early lunch with my husband, 8 year old twin daughters (one of whom is special needs), and myself. One of my daughters ordered the kids shrimp lo mein with extra shrimp, but she only received 3 shrimp in her meal, not the extra she had requested. When we went to pay at the front, our server - who I believe to be the owner/manager - was rude to us. I mentioned the issue with the shrimp, and he asked my daughter if she had received extra shrimp, to which she replied no. He then went to the back and came back saying that we had in fact received extra shrimp. I insisted that we had not, but he rudely took my debit card, scanned it, and walked away without a thank you. I wish I knew his name so I could inform you who he is. We paid over $15 for a bowl of noodles with 3 shrimp and felt like we were being treated as liars. Our server also brought cups for our twins without lids, so we had to ask for kid cups. When we requested wooden chopsticks and holders for the kids, the holders were dirty and used, not washed. The rice and veggies were acceptable, but my hibachi chicken was disappointing and fatty. Despite my efforts to keep quiet and not cause a scene, I just wanted to enjoy lunch with my family, but Watami did not want that for us. I will not be returning."

"I didn't have high expectations for this restaurant, as the interior resembles a cabin that blends Japanese and American styles. They serve hot miso soup before the main course, which is a nice twist from the usual practice of serving it at the end. However, I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality of the service and the food. Having spent six months in Tokyo, I can confidently say that the sashimi here is reminiscent of what I enjoyed in Japan. The raw fish is incredibly fresh, served chilled, and utterly delicious! Pairing that with the cold temperatures outside made for a dining experience I’ve been seeking in the USA for a long time. Overall, it was a fantastic experience! Kudos to the chef!"

"They say location location location is everything. Well this was a perfect location for this restaurant and so glad we stopped in. We had the Reuben w/ff. It was the perfect amount for the hubby and I to share. Had we each gotten one, we would have been painfully full because it’s a big sandwich and so good you’d want to try to finish the whole thing yourself. We loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the hometown feel of genuine conversation of the staff. Nicole was our server, thank you. The food came out in a very timely manner. I know IF we ever pass through again, we will be stopping in. Oh, and the bathrooms were clean and spacious."

"I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pizza I had. I ordered a pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom pizza, and it was fantastic. While the type of sausage they use isn't my favorite, I know many people enjoy it, so I'm not going to hold that against them. There's also a small bar connected to the pizza place, where you can sit and enjoy your meal along with a beer. The service was excellent as well. "However, the overall experience was diminished by the cleanliness and upkeep of the establishment. Both the interior and exterior lacked proper maintenance. The vents inside appeared to have not been cleaned since the restaurant opened, and there were significant holes in the walls where most of the indoor seating is located—quite off-putting. On a positive note, the staff was friendly, accommodating, and eager to help. Nonetheless, cleanliness is paramount, especially when it comes to food preparation. Because of these issues, we regrettably won’t be returning during our future visits."

"This restaurant is fantastic! We arrived 15 minutes before closing and asked if we could still dine in. Luckily, they said yes without any issue. We ended up staying 30 minutes after closing time, but the staff did not seem bothered at all. We ordered a cheese pizza, a meat lover's pizza called "The Barnyard," and some fried pommes frites. It was my first time trying fried pickles and they were delicious! The pizza was also amazing. The cheese was tasty and the crust was crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. I would definitely eat here again if I ever find myself in the area. The customer service was also excellent!"

"So glad we found this place in Frog Level just a couple blocks off of the main drag of downtown Waynsesville. We enjoyed our lattes. Friendly employees owners, even though we're tourists. Haha Kid friendly. Lots of seating areas indoors or Amazing creek front seating outside. In full disclosure we did go on a day there was Perfect weather. : We purchased some bags of coffee beans (they offered to grind them for us and a t-shirt with their store mascot, a cat that lives outside near the establishment. Can't wait to visit again when we're in the area."

The staff, on the other hand, is excellent. The outdated interior raises questions about the cleanliness of the kitchen area."
