"The Tavern has reopened and it is better than ever! We happened to be in State College on one of their openings nights and so we thought we would give The ?new? Tavern a try. I don?t usually write reviews but The Tavern deserves to be recognized. It has a fresh new look that still maintains the traditions and nostalgia of the past. The Tavern?s updated menu has something for everyone?with options ranging from salads to seafood to pasta and beef which is locally sourced. Plus there are fresh new side options to choose from on the menu. Everyone in my group of six said their appetizers, entrees and sides were cooked to perfection and delicious! The desserts are amazing too! The service at the bar and our table was excellent. In my opinion, The Tavern now has the best food and service in State College. In addition to that, it is worth going just to see all the amazing PSU photos and memorabilia and have a drink at one of their new bars including an upstairs outdoor bar! There are fun new cocktails on the drink menu plus a few old favorites like the Original Sin. The Tavern and Adam?s Apple have always been special places but they are truly incredible now! It is a must go to when in State College for a visit."

One of the few restaurants in State College for fine food. Four of us had steaks. They were perfectly cooked. I had the main nativity. The atmosphere was very nice as they were completely renovated last year.

It's one of the few fine dining options in State College. Four of us ordered steaks, and they were cooked to perfection. I had the filet mignon, which was excellent. The atmosphere is lovely, especially since the restaurant underwent a complete renovation last year.

Everything we had was extraordinary. Instead of the appetizer list, we wanted to start a page of the brussel sprouts that make it a big opener. The Mahi tuna, cooked to taste spinach salad. A well decorated bathroom always makes me funny and I liked the art in this???

This is a must stop in Happy Valley ?. Even a typical meal has an amazing taste and twist to it. Yum yum. If you're more adventurous enjoy the more unique side of the menu, I recommend it. ?. Philly egg rolls is a must. The veal is heaven and any red meat sauce pasta is great. There are a few sides the the restaurant too (bar, balcony, couches ?, patio etc. I'll be back. Voir le carte

Finally, the newly renovated? Tavern. The atmosphere is very beautiful, but it ends there. We got the ****, steak and 1/2 chicken. All three ducks tasted like they were soaked into salt water for days. Brussels shoots were burned, asparagus was super salty. Have you eaten at Pat?s tavern once a week (always excellent). Will never be back to this place?.terrible. No good bread as before and no good sides. The good old days are gone.

the tavern has opened again and it is better than ever! we were random in state college at one of their openings nights and so we thought that we would give the “new” tavern a try. "Gigi's substantially changed their menu ahead of Father's Day so that it differed from the online version not only were the options quite different, but the menu was substantially shorter one page, very few options . Furthermore there were no vegetarian options besides salads, only one fish option the shrimp dish had sausage in it , and nearly all dishes had a substantial element of spiciness to them while I love spice, one member of our party is very sensitive and had difficulty figuring out an option . What made our experience particularly difficult was Gigi's refusal to allow minor substitutions i.e. condiments, spice level and refusal to add a protein to a salad that the restaurant had in stock which we would have been more than happy to pay for , which was explicitly an option on the old menu. While I understand why a chef would not want to back up their kitchen for customer substitution requests, this policy should have been relaxed considering the extremely short menu that had been changed at the last minute in fact, the online version of the menu still had not been changed by the time we sat at our table. But the most frustrating portion of our evening was when the manager came over to ask how we were doing. One member of our party brought up politely the last minute menu change and lack of options for diners, to which the manager perplexingly retorted that Gigi's didn't want to allow additions/substitutions because it might create an influx of customers to the establishment ??? , and that proteins were still allowed to be added to dishes for breakfast options but not dinner again, ??? . I should note that my dishes crab soup, salmon were delicious, and the service by our waitress was lovely. However this did not extend to the all of the dishes that my companions ate an over cooked burger, bland grits, etc. , and their negative experience regrettably ruined what should have been a relaxing Father's Day dinner."
