"it is here for a meal unexpectedly finished and it was the best meal I had in a year. has muddles with a cream sauce 2 lbs for $22. came with a side of fries that were delicious, although I would order a little brot the next time. cook home and still delicious the day after with roasted baguette. husband had the pork belley tacos that were also great. they were both from the special board. nash was our server (also bartender) and he was one of the best I ever had. I want to drive two hours to go back there!"

"My friend and I came to Galena for a little day getaway. Fried Green Tomatoes was a recommendation to us and the reviews looked good so we decided to come. We were so excited to have a nice dinner. I love the look of the inside. You could instantly tell the manager was great at his job. Sadly he is one of the only reasons there is a star. We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer and I thought it was delicious. Main course was lobster ravioli and 2 seared scallops. I got the lobster ravioli and it was fine- wasn’t wow. I bit into a scallop and instantly spit it out. It tasted and smelled old- I couldn’t identify what the smell was besides cleaning product or a hair bleach, but then I realized it is an ammonia scent to it. Regardless if it was an off day, I feel like the chef should have noticed this and been a little more careful. I was just super disappointed. The scallops were taken off the bill but I’m still upset I spent $50 for a meal not that great. I don’t mean to be harsh when it comes to this review, but I’m just being honest. I also deducted a star because as a mother I feel all restaurants should have changing table this one did not. It should be mandatory for any family friendly restaurant to have a changing table- there’s enough room for one. I do this to every restaurant without a changing table. I wouldn’t go back:"

"I had the best sushi ever! I tried the Romeo and Juliet roll and it was incredibly flavorful. They offer soy paper instead of seaweed wraps, which was a big plus for me. The service was excellent and the menu is extensive, catering to all tastes. I highly recommend trying their sushi, although they have other options as well."

"First of all, let me say that the atmosphere of this restaurant is fantastic. We walked in and instantly fell in love with the place. The service was generally good, except for one issue: the bartender was attempting to flirt with my wife. She began by calling her "babe," and when I stepped away, she immediately switched to calling my wife "baby." It escalated to the point where we both felt very uncomfortable. When my wife asked for the bill, the bartender replied with, "Anything for you, hot stuff." This behavior completely overshadowed our experience and disrespected me and our relationship. If Sarah is working, I can't recommend this place, and personally, we won't be returning. I'll also include a photo of the bartender for reference."

"There last weekend. Went a little early for supper because it was Friday. Husband had bowl of seafood chowder special which he enjoyed. I had cup mushroom soup (menu item) which was excellent and flavorful. I also had the the corned beef brisket sandwich. Very good, not fatty. Had the horseradish mustard on the side because I like horseradish but not mustard, but the mustard was not overpowering. Coleslaw was good with light (not mayo) dressing. Note this is more bistro type food, not grill. No burgers or fried food. We shared the bread pudding (menu) for dessert, also good. Staff was very attentive and answered questions patiently and thoroughly. I tried to tip about 25-30%, which I usually stick to 20. They are a bar also, but we did not have alcohol. It appears they have some specialty wines per board. Would definitely go there again should we ever go back to Galena."

"The local hole in the wall bar! A fun place to enjoy a casual beer any time of day, with friendly service, a full Midwest menu for breakfast lunch or dinner. I had an omelet and it was delicious, my husband loved his steak and eggs, and pizza and burgers are a common choice for us there as well. Seating is limited, it's a small bar, and parking can be difficult depending on time of day. Not really a place for kids, per se."

"The place was really nice, the service, food, everything was excellent. The reason for the 1 rating was after a wonderful experience our waitress tried to tip shame us. Instead of leaving the bill, she indicated she had taken the 20% off because she knew we'd take care of her. We were only a small group and their menu even said tips only added for groups of 6 or more. She would have received more if she hadn't done that ... I would still recommend the place."

"We’ve passed by for 20years and finally stopped in. It’s in the historic DeSoto so the decor was 1800s. Quaint dining room. Karstyn our server gave us full attention. Explained mine well. Shrimp in bacon appetizer was crisp and tasty. Wife has crab legs. Reasonable market price. I had ribs. Portions generous. 2 sides generous. Birthday cheesecake was tasty. My wife’s wine selection was good. Reasonable prices. Overall service from our 3 servers capped the evening. We’ll be back for sure"

"This wS a wonderful experience. I had grilled pork medallion with sweet potatoe hash broccoli, the best pork I have had. The glaze was so good. My husband had bangers mash. Also fabulous. Our waiter Elliott was very helpful, knowledgeable with food bar menu. So very enjoyable. I would highly recommend if you are in the area you need to stop and enjoy this unique place. Food: 5"

"Love the hotel. Love the history, the location and close proximity to everything on Main Street. There are Restaurants, shops and bars in DeSoto House. It also has a covered parking garage.. staff is awesome! The only issue and reason for 4 stars versus 5... it is hard to sleep. If you are on 2nd floor, it sounds like the people above you are about to come through the ceiling. We were originally placed by elevators and had to move as I barely slept at all. They were very accommodating. People in the hall talk loudly and slam doors and it was a little much. When I come back, I think being on the 3rd floor would be optimal. No encounters with any of the ghosts."

"03/29/2924 Otto’s is a quaint, small restaurant just off downtown Galena. We ate breakfast there the last morning of our visit to the area. It came with high recommendations and was worth the visit.Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended.The food was delicious and the service was top notch. Egg dishes were fresh and flavorful, pancakes were moist and tasty, and the salmon lox was delicatessen quality. Most importantly, the coffee was excellent.Otto’s is 5 stars across the board.Wheelchair accessibility: The location is not wheelchair accessible."

"Wow. I hear such amazing things about this place but I am disappointed, I don’t know if they’re short staffed or their workers just don’t wanna work. I went in this morning to get some breakfast, just an omelette some sausage and scrapple, it took an hour for me to get my food. I sat inside the whole time waiting for it and no one struck up a conversation and the workers just walked around either in their phone or eating. the omelette came out cold, the potatoes and toast that came as a side to the omelette weren’t cooked all the way the toast wasn’t toasted at all and they were also cold. As for the scrapple they asked if I wanted it crispy and I said yeah, but it came out so mushy and not crispy at all, the only thing that was ok was the sausage, because it’s hard to go wrong with that."

"This is our second time visiting Goldmoor, and we would have been back a lot sooner if COVID hadn't gotten in the way. Just as in our previous visit, we had the opportunity to not only be greeted by the owners Birgit and Slobo but also enjoyed chatting with Slobo at times throughout our meal. The food here is really spectacular in every way visual presentation, taste, portion size. We enjoyed the chef's incorporating fall elements into the entrees, beef wellington and the crispy stuffed half chicken. The setting itself is gorgeous, looking down the hillside to the river, and the rooms of the restaurant are lovingly decorated in keeping with the overall theme of the inn. If you are able with a group of two, request one of the padded booths in the side hallway where you have unobstructed window views. We live in the Chicago area and dine out frequently. Dining at Goldmoor rivals the best we have experienced in Chicago but with the personal touch of and attention from the owners that is often missing in the city."

"given his TA review, my wife and I expected much more than this restaurant delivered. the service was below what we expect from a highly rated operation. we had brought our own bottle of champagner as the wine list on the website of the restaurant was weak (and the in-person list was not better.) we called in advance to ensure that we could bring our own bottle and pay a cork fee and that it was not a problem. my habit is to pay both the cork fee and add an additional tip for the server as they never know how much of the tip is actually shared with the personal. in this case the server brought a wine cup for the table and went on to open the bottle with which uot actually put champage glasses on the table. then she opened our very beautiful bottle 200 retailers) in a way that made the wine blow the bottle to the floor. at this point she thought to get some wine glasses. she poured each one of us a third of a glass and then never poured another drop the rest of the meal. (and, by the way, the big icer on the small table was constantly away.) we were never offered a broth course. the food itself was average. skipped dessert and came in 57 minutes from the square. tipped on the food service; tipped me for the wine service! the owner spent all the time at the door review on reservations. imho, he had to spend some time checking the quality of his service staff (or even doing something)."

"After arriving in the city, I made a reservation for 6:30 PM through OpenTable. I received a confirmation via email and text, which made me even more hopeful. However, I was shocked and disappointed to find the restaurant completely deserted upon our arrival. It felt like an eerie scene from a movie, with music playing in the parking lot and no sign of life inside. Since we had no backup plans, we were left scrambling for another place to eat. If the restaurant had intended to close, they should have clearly stated that on their website and updated their OpenTable settings to prevent reservations on their non-operating days. This lack of communication is unacceptable and reflects poorly on their business practices."

"Food was ok but nothing special. My husband ordered the Veal Parmigiana and a salad. Veal was tough and not really hot. I had the lasagna, it was ok but nothing to write home about. We asked the server about the veal and hoping he would warm it up but offered nothing. Salad and garlic bread was good. Drinks were ok but watered down. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant so now we know why. Don't believe the hype it's not worth it. We have visited Galena many times and this is not the place to go."
