Prompt service. The food was very good and the cocktails delicious! Had the Nigri sampler. Highly recommend if interested in trying different fish.

I attempted to place an order from this restaurant last night, but when I inquired about the vegetarian broth listed as kelp broth, I was informed that it was actually fish-based. The menu was quite confusing and not very vegan-friendly.

Big menu. Great happy hour. Nice interior and ambiance in general. Favorites include the mussels, age dashi, kara age, salmon apple crudo, white tiger roll, sake don buri... never really miss here. The menu has limited vegan options. I inquired about the veggie futomaki, which came with a lemon basil sauce that turned out to be non-vegan. The server was initially unaware, so I pressed for clarification, and the manager confirmed that the sauce was not vegan. This update is based on a review from June 2, 2022.

It was just alright. We really enjoy Raku, but didn't feel like driving there tonight, so I found this place online and decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to our expectations. The soup was far too spicy for our liking, and the noodles lacked flavor beyond just soy sauce. On a positive note, the sushi was good. Overall, I would rate the food a 2 out of 5.

One of the decent sushi restaurants in DC. We ordered chicken karaage and sushi and roll combo. It was delicious! The fish was fresh and chicken karaage was great. The rice was just a little bit hard though. I would also not advise getting a bottled peach white ale just cause it?s way cheaper at the Rice Market. Rakuya is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING part izakaya, part resto style experience. THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS and adequately priced. On top of that, servers are really nice and the service is really fast. An absolute must try resto if you are in DC. This resto is also a few steps away from the Dupont circle metro station exit so a car is also not necessary to get to it. Finally, make sure you make a reservation before you go in as it's absolutely packed with people in the evening

I was looking for a place to eat lunch and came across Rakuya. First, this place is so cute with lots of character and charm. The inside is modern and cozy, a relatively small dining room. There's ample outside seating. I sat at the small sushi bar, which was perfect for my solo meal. I was indecisive, so I decided on a Teishoku Lunch Set. I went to Rakuya with a group of friends because we were nearby and wanted to have dinner somewhere enjoyable for everyone. The reviews on Google made it sound quite vegan-friendly, so we decided on Rakuya. When I checked the menu, I was excited to see several vegan options, and they sounded delicious. However, I first tried to order the veggie bento box, only to find out it wasn’t vegan since both the tempura and tofu were fried with eggs, and they couldn’t make any substitutions.
