"**Restaurant Review - 5.10.24** I usually enjoy supporting mom-and-pop shops and cozy cafés. They often showcase beautiful local art and serve delicious homemade food. However, my recent dining experience at this café was a bit disappointing. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine, but it arrived with an overcooked top. I could have cut off the burnt part, but for $12.95, I believe I shouldn't have to do that. After just one small bite, I decided to ask the waiter if I could switch to a different dish. He kindly handed me a menu, and I chose the Italian salad. Fortunately, it was fantastic—fresh prosciutto, mozzarella, pesto, cherry tomatoes on a bed of lettuce, all drizzled with balsamic dressing. At $15, I expected a generous portion that I could take home, but it ended up being just a single serving. I was really hoping for a fresh baguette with butter, or even half a baguette, but instead, I received a ridiculously small piece of bread. That's just being stingy; bread isn't expensive to make. The final disappointment came as I was paying the bill. I noticed some chocolate chip cookies in a glass display and wondered why they were only 60 cents, especially since nothing else at this café was cheap. After I left and took a look at the cookie, I understood: it was overcooked. Biting into it was like trying to chew on a hockey puck—it was almost burnt and tasteless. These cookies should have been tossed out. As regular readers of my reviews know, my great-grandmother owned a German bakery in Queens, so I have a long-standing appreciation for baked goods. We take baking seriously, and if we accidentally overbaked a batch, it would go straight in the trash—no question about it. The menu did feature a variety of crepe dishes that others raved about, which might be their specialty. I might consider returning for those. I do want to commend the woman, one half of the French couple who run the café, for being gracious enough to let me return my quiche after just one bite and providing me with a replacement at no extra charge. Not every restaurateur is so accommodating, and we had a nice chat about different styles of quiche and croissants. In conclusion, this café was quite inconsistent with its offerings, so I’m not sure if I would go out of my way to visit again."
