"We only went for lunch on this visit but, we waited 20 minutes to be seated, and there were open tables visible. I'm guessing this was due to staff shortage. Our server greeted us when we sat, but didn't take drink orders and informed us that we would have to wait until she delivered food to other tables. She didn't return for another 15 or so minutes. Drink orders were taken (water for me) and it took quite a while for them to be delivered. Then she finally took our lunch orders. All in all, my Rueben sandwich was average. There was absolutely nothing special about it. The 1000 Island dressing was served on the side, which I found odd, considering it's one of the main ingredients. The fries I ordered were basic frozen fries, unseasoned. Not even salt. I'm guessing they don't salt anything. Even my friends' meals were bland. I don't understand the hype regarding this restaurant, unless it's the fact they serve the main courses family style if you request it. The server also explained that the veggies served with main dinners are from cans, but the canned green beans have onion and bacon added. Maybe to hide the tin taste. Would I go back??? Overpriced tourist trap. Six of us had dinner. Sauerbraten was tough, you had to use a knife to cut it. The chicken and weiner schnitzels were OK. The potato dumplings, at $6.50 for 2, were terrible. They appeared to be mashed potatoes formed in a ball and baked in the oven. Canned corn and green beans. Mashed potatoes were pasty and the gravy tasted like diner brown gravy. There was ketchup on the side of the plastic table cloth which got on my jeans and new blouse. The waitress said it will wash out. I asked for supervisor name and she gave me a business card. I washed off the ketchup the best I could then waitress took a picture of my blouse with very little on it because I cleaned it up. I was treated like a baby and that my new top did not matter. Then it took along time for our chicken salad sandwiches to be delivered to our table. I will not come back. We always eat here when we travel to this area! This time we went upstairs to the museum areas and this was a great new addition to our trip! I highly recommend doing so while you are waiting for your table! We celebrated our twins' birthdays and they always do a wonderful job with free desserts and they take a large picture and print it off framed for you to keep. Yummy homemade food! Nearby activities: Historically area filled with houses, buildings and shops of the Amana Colonies. The restaurant itself is a historic location and beautiful. Safety: Small, quiet quaint area.
