"My wife and I recently celebrated our sixth anniversary at the Old '76 House while visiting the Hudson Valley. When making our reservation, I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary. To our delight, the staff surprised us with a lovely table by the bar featuring two comfortable chairs. We absolutely adored the colonial decor throughout the tavern, and to our joy, we enjoyed live jazz music as well. For drinks, my wife ordered The Dropped Lemon—a martini made with Italian limoncello and citrus-infused vodka with a sugar rim—while I opted for the 76 House Tavernkeeper Ale, which is exclusively brewed for the tavern based on a centuries-old recipe that George Washington enjoyed so much he took it back to Mount Vernon. For our appetizer, we shared Grilled Flatbread topped with roasted butternut squash and garlic purée, caramelized onions, shaved Brussels sprouts, Gruyère cheese, and chili-bacon jam. For the main course, my wife had the Jumbo Diver Scallops, which featured jumbo sea scallops with seared red onion, house-made risotto deglazed with port wine. I chose the Roast Loin of Pork—bacon-wrapped loin stuffed with chorizo cornbread stuffing, roasted and finished with sauce chasseur, served alongside a duo of mashed sweet Yukon gold potatoes. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! Though we were a bit too full for dessert, our bartender surprised us with dessert cocktails made with whiskey, amaretto, crème de cacao, Irish cream, and coffee liqueur, garnished with strawberries, and presented on a plate with the words "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate syrup. We also had the pleasure of chatting with owner Rob Norden, who was incredibly friendly. We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Old '76 House and would love to return in the future!"

We last visited this restaurant 50 years ago, and it's transformed for the better. While they had good food and service back then, they've stepped it up to offer even better food and service now. I think George Washington would approve! Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I had lunch here today, and while it wasn't busy, it also wasn't during the peak lunch hour. The food service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was truly unique and historic—absolutely loved it! I dined in for lunch, and the price per person was between $10 and $20. I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all at 5 stars. I highly recommend the French Onion Soup!

This was an enjoyable experience. The menu was a real delight and our food came out quick and extremely tasty. My only issue was in the evenings there are live bands, I'm not adverse to this but found it to be too loud. But others around were enjoying it hence I still rate it as 5 starts. I think my next visit will be in the daytime so I can enjoy the history and look around a bit more. Well worth a visit Service: Dine in View menu

What a delightful atmosphere with a charming colonial vibe! It's a pleasure to experience a touch of history. The staff were incredibly accommodating and attentive, even while managing several groups of diners. The live music enhanced the ambiance beautifully. I tried the locally produced hard cider, which was refreshing and crisp. My main dish was decent; the spaetzle and red cabbage sides were delicious, but the breaded pork patty fell a bit short—it seemed more mass-produced rather than lovingly crafted by hand. On the dessert front, the crème brûlée was outstanding. Thank you for a lovely dining experience!

I have to say, this place is the most patriotic spot to enjoy a burger on July 4th. The ambiance, the building's history, and its location are truly exceptional. Sipping on a pint of Sam Adams here adds to the experience. However, my 3-star rating isn't reflective of the service—the waitstaff, particularly Johanna, were fantastic and even shared some interesting historical tidbits with us. Unfortunately, the popover that came with the pot roast was stale, as if it had been prepared on Sunday. The burger was delicious, but the apple crisp was made from canned fruit and was undercooked in the middle, which seemed like it had just come out of the microwave. I'll definitely give this place anoth...
