"We were a party of 5 (reservation was for 6, but one person dropped out last minute). Our waiter promptly came to the table and took our drink and food orders. The kids got their drinks within moments, but from then on the service was substandard waited nearly 20 minutes for our adult beverages to be served by someone from the bar. By then the kids had finished their drinks,so we asked the bar man for another round of drinks for them only to be told I 'm not your waiter. We explained to the bar man that our waiter was AWOL, pointing to him in the back by the kitchen. The bar man sauntered off toward the bar. What was especially interesting was that our waiter did not appear to have any other tables, and as mentioned could be seen hovering in the back by the kitchen. After a while he graced us with his presence. We then got our appetizers. Shortly after finishing our appetizers our main course was served. Oddly, our waiter didn 't bother to clear away any of the empty plates/bowls from the appetizers...simply left them on the table. After the main course was served we did not see hide or hair of our waiter for quite some time. After awhile he once again graced us with his presence, and we asked for the check. Oddly, I held out my hand for the check when he came back with it. The waiter muttered 'thank you ' and placed the check on the table just out of my reach. All of this was quite surprising to the wife and me as we 've frequently visited this establishment (service is normally attentive, friendly and proactive). Then all became quite clear to us. As our reservation was for 6 people, we were considered a large party. A 20% gratuity is automatically applied to the check. One can only assume that the assurance of the 20% tip impacted the waiter 's attentiveness, We will not be coming back, whether as a party of 5, 6, or just 2. Suggestion to the owners of this establishment: While some large parties may not always tip appropriately, you should reconsider the automatic gratuity as it clearly impacts the attentiveness of a waiter who knows they 've nothing to lose whether they provide good service or not. In this instance, the service was abysmal to put it politely."

Great spot in downtown Somerville, they do a number of beer styles well, and have decent food. Service was fantastic.

Went in with my girlfriend and everything was great! Our server (I think her name was Clarissa) was absolutely wonderful. She had great recommendations on food, which did not disappoint! She recommended the cauliflower bites, which were awesome. Definitely coming coming back soon!

After my first experience at The Village Brewing company I’ll definitely be returning. The food/drinks were good but our night was made by our server Toni, she was amazing! There was a bit of a wait for the drinks but she explained everything and was very kind/helpful throughout the night :

The food and beers were fantastic! The service could use some improvement, though. I ordered pretzel bites as an appetizer, but they never arrived. It was a bit pricey; our total for two dinners, two beers, and one cocktail came to $80 before tip. I will definitely return, but not on a weekly basis. View menu

Worst experience ever! Menu is limited and food is subpar. Service was slow, food was stale. What kills me the most is the fact the manager is a coward. She couldn’t explain why we were charge for a large party. 5 ppl is not a large party but they added 20% to the bill! Waiter claims he thought we were six. We were 5 the entire time. They rude not only rude but poor at their jobs and customer service. Don’t go!

I wanted to celebrate my birthday and had an incredible experience. First of all, the food was outstanding—expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. You could really tell the chef knew what he was doing. We sampled a variety of appetizers and entrees, all of which were fantastic and reasonably priced. The staff was extremely friendly, and the chef even came out to check on how we were enjoying our meal. I highly recommend dining here; even the milkshakes were delightful!

After a tough week, I decided to take my family out for a little pick-me-up. We stopped by Village Brewing Co. in Somerville, expecting just a beer and a burger, but we got so much more! We were lucky to have Larissa P. as our server, and she was absolutely fantastic! Even though it was a busy night due to a local car show, she came over to our table outside, greeted us with a warm smile, and was just a pleasure to interact with. The food was excellent and served quickly, and our drinks were perfectly timed. I’m so glad we discovered this place again, and having Larissa P. as our server made the experience even better. I can’t wait to return soon! View menu

Today’s experience at the restaurant was disappointing. Upon entering, we were greeted by two servers standing near a sign that read “Please See Host to be Seated.” Unfortunately, neither of them acknowledged us; they simply walked away. After waiting around for about four minutes without any assistance, the servers continued to move about without recognizing our presence. Frustrated, I finally approached a server to ask for a table. Once seated, we waited an additional ten minutes for someone to take our order, and we were nearly ready to leave. Eventually, we ordered a burger and a beer. However, when it came time to pay, we couldn't find our server. I asked a busser if she could locate o...

Food was great! This review is for my first experience which was this past Sunday so the bar and restaurant was slow, not a lot of people. I can’t really blame them for it looking slow on a Sunday but I imagine the atmosphere is a lot better when there is more people. The style of the bar and dining room is very nice though.Between 4 people we shared 2 appetizers the Village Nachos w/chicken and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip. The bites of chicken for the nachos was cooked perfectly and overall the nachos were very good (sorry for the blurry photo). I couldn’t stop picking on the Spinach and Artichoke Dip either. For my main, I normally don’t go for alternative proteins or vegetarian or vegan...

"No soup/sandwich shop compares in terms of price per quality, portion size, and different options in the area. I only started ordering from here about 2 weeks ago and I’ve now had 7 different kinds of soups and 4 different kinds of sandwiches after the first order I started ordering two soups and a sandwich aka a soup to save for later because they’re just that good, every one of them. Price is so very reasonable and depending on which combo you get you can make out with a full sized sandwich and large sized homemade soup for $14.While it’s hard to recommend one thing over another in this circumstance since it’s all been great in their own ways, the Chicken Chowder is something I plan on getting a quart of next time it’s available. The Chicken Barley and Chicken Lemon Rice are ones I plan on getting quarts of in the future as well, and that’s not to discount the Chicken Noodle, Beef and Veg Noodle Stew, French Onion, and the current seasonal Chilled Gazpacha (which I probably wouldn’t have even tried it wasn’t from these guys . It’s all top quality. The Chicken Tarragon sandwich is my favorite in terms of sandwiches although it can’t combo with a soup as of now (please let us! . The best cheap soup combo sandwich is a tossup between the Cilantro Tuna and Ciabatta Sandwich, which are both incredible in their own ways. The only few drawbacks to this place are they don’t have every soup they make every day, are only open until 4PM, and aren’t open on the weekends. That said it’s worth it to plan accordingly for this. I never review anything but this place is worth it it’s the best if you’re a soup and sandwich person like I am."
