"After many years of visiting Apple Hill, I finally stopped at The Forester Pub and Grill. Their menu included some familiar German dishes which looked interesting and a nice option for a cool late fall visit. The restaurant was filling up quickly which was a good sign for this place on Carson Road in beautiful downtown Camino. Parking is decent, and they have a lot in the rear. The inside of the restaurant looks like your uncle's old cabin in a wonderful way. It has a warm and comfortable look with authentic wood stoves. I sat down and reviewed the large menu. There are lots of traditional American dishes here that seem to be popular, but I had my eye on the schnitzel. They have Jagerschnitzel and Wienerschnitzel. I chose the Wiener since the sauce seemed intriguing. A generous and loaded salad and a hot cup of coffee were quickly delivered to my table while they prepared my entree. The Wienerschnitzel was simply amazing. The meat was perfectly cooked with a nice thin breading and a sublime sauce. The spatzle were just heavenly truly homemade and light as air even soaked in gravy. You can get red cabbage too which helps cut through the heavy fare. Towards the end, I finally squeezed the lemon on the schnitzel and was rewarded with a spectacular combination of flavors that made it easy to clean the plate. The location near all the farms in Apple Hill is more than enough reason to visit The Forester, but the amazing schnitzel is worth the drive. If the rest of the food is similar to the German options, I think this place is a true gem in the foothills."

"After waiting for half an hour, we started to wonder what was going on. Everything we ordered was pre-made, so it should have been quick. About 45 minutes in, the restaurant started to get busier, which shouldn’t have affected us, but we were still waiting for our meal. A family with three small children sat next to us, and after waiting 30 minutes without their quesadillas, they went to check on their order. They even had to bring in iPads for their kids because they were bored and hungry! Meanwhile, we still hadn’t received our food. Eventually, I got up and asked the guy at the BBQ about our hot link. He said he had no idea what happened to our order and that no one had given it to him, but he would make one “right now.” After another 15 to 20 minutes, our food finally started arriving. But that “right now” hot link? It never showed up. While the pulled pork on the sandwich was decent, the amount for $7.50 was about equal to what you’d get on a McDonald’s McDouble from the dollar menu. The chicken wrapped in pastry was quite small, but it was at least a bit tasty. And as for the hot link? It never came to our table. As we got up to leave, we noticed others who had also been waiting for about an hour for their meals. Some of the smart ones were heading to the front to get refunds for their orders. Lesson 1: Never eat at a place that makes you pay before you receive your meal—they’re sending a clear message! Lesson 2: Avoid this restaurant at all costs!"
