"Came down here from South Bend to tour the Sanatorium and knew nothing of the hype of this place. I just googled 'food near me ', and Mecca appeared in the search results. I am so glad we drove the little ways to try it! Words do not do justice for how good the food is. We had the breaded tenderloin, a burger, and the pretzel. The pretzel was the size of moped tire. Served in a pizza takeout box because I 'm sure they know you 're going to be taking it home. Two people can 't finish it. The tenderloin was enormous and without a doubt the best breaded tenderloin I 've ever had! It is no wonder they sell out. The burger was equally good. Greasy, cheesy, deliciousness. Let 's talk about the atmosphere for a moment. I 've read the complaints about the tavern smell, smoke smell or whatever. This is clearly an old tavern that predates the Indiana smoking ban. Heck, I don 't know if you still can smoke in there after a certain hour. I didn 't see anyone however. But if you 're old enough to be in a bar, the smoke smell shouldn 't shock you. Or maybe it does if you 're on the younger side and no smoking bars have existed for you since turning 21. I, however, remember bars being smoking. So my question to the complainers about the smell , what do you want people to do? Gut their entire place to suit your needs? This place is a hidden gem. Off the beaten path and well worth the drive. You can 't beat the scenery getting there. We will drive back from South Bend, for sure!"
